Can anyone assist me with a constantly loosening centre & side stand on my "bargain" 1100GS, the poxy thing is relying on one bolt into the side of the engine block to prevent it falling over. The 2 fillister headed bolts that are either side of the engine block are avoiding all efforts to either tighten up or bloody well come out. people I await the news! last time I meddle with these poxy new fangled things, give me an air head evry time.Reg

No Numpty with the spanners or allen keys

OK thats a useful suggestion, but tell me how you get the bolts out when they dont unscrew? I do have some mechanical apptitude and have "had a go" but I feel I'm really missing a point here. All suggestions will be attempted!

OK,
The best way(in my humble experience) to remove rusted bolts is with either heat or WD40.
You can either CAREFULLY heat them to release years of grime and rust OR and I would try this first give them a good soaking in WD40 or some such product and keep applying it over a period of time.
Oh and there is also the freezing method to contract the metal, comes in a can and spray it on.

WD40 isn't the best release fluid.

The best stuff I've used is called 'Plusgas' and it works well.

Give it a soak overnight then get a well fitting socket and a breaker bar on it.

Try to tighten/loosen/tighten until it starts to give. Too much brute force in one go may shear it off completely.

Huh?

Ok Ok, lets start again, are we sitting comfortably, then I'll begin. The 2 allen bolts that hold the stand THROUGH the rear of the engine block, will not Tighten or Unscrew, OK got that?, the fact that they go round and round and round, both ways, that is screwing up & undoing, (no they aint rusted solid, far from it they are as free as fxxk) but I cant get them out. Is that simple enuff? I know from looking at diagrams and pictures what they look like, and what they are supposed to do, but in my case they aint playing the game. So how can I remove something that obviously doesnt want to go in or out? perlease, this is driving me nuts!

Does this help at all?

Is sir realizing that the screws both screw into the same shaft and therefore when you undo one you need to hold the other to stop the shaft spinning?

fer feks sake, i thort you guys knew all the bloody answers, yes i've had 2 allen keys on the bleeding thing and still it dont work, they BOTH go round but not in and out. And as for the twat in the mask, well the last time I saw summat like that he was in the cross hairs of a very powerful snipers rifle, and I was ordered not to shoot! C,mon I'm off to Poland Monday and need to sort this out, all the senses tell me that with O rings and all Oil might come out if I can get the buggers out, so help me perlease?

PROBLEM SOLVED

Well I went down t'shed, grabbed the biggest T bar allen key, inserted into the head of the bolt, cocked it at an angled and the thing just pulled out, with the bar attached and the thread missing on the end, its been overtightened by hamfisted german pillock and busted it off in the O/S stand pivot thingy. I was hoping that this was the cause of the original problem of the side stand leaning at a heart stopping angle, but no, its all relying on one bolt that holds it in the engine block & acts a the centre stand stop. What a shite design!!!!!!!! So loads of loctite and the biggest sodding washer in the tool box, and a lot of praying that it stays put long enough to enjoy my trip. Thanks for all the pearls of wisdom, I'll keep you posted. Reg
