When I started this PC this morning, as soon as everything was up and running, I started getting this pop-up box that says "Do you want to install and run" then it's got loads of text in Italian, until it says "Signed on an unknown date/time and distributed by BASE ACTIVITIES LIMITED.

The thing is, if i say "No", it pops up again, and again, and again, and again, and basically won't leave this PC alone.

I have installed and run SPYBOT search and destroy, but this has not got rid of it.

Any ideas? I'm running Windows 98 - yes i know it's old, but it works.

set the comp back to an earlier time, use system restore

hit ctrl alt delete. Stop the programme in the applications menu then run yr virus checker and ad aware checker to get rid of it.

Worked for me.:)

You could download and try Hitman Pro which is a combination of products to see if one of them can locate it and deal with it.

It's Free too!!:thumb2

Thanks - I'll give that a shot when Bitdefender has finished scanning the drive.

After a bit more research, this pop-up wants me to download a bit of software which will mean I pay 15 Euros for every 6 minutes of internet time.

BEWARE any popups from BASE ACTIVITIES LIMITED

Pop-up problem

I had a nasty pop-up which I knew, if I accepted the offer, was going to load a virus on my machine, which, surprise, surprise, only their software, at £30 a pop, could solve.

After much trawling on the Web, I found the answer. I wholeheartedly recommend a website called GeekstoGo:

http://www.geekstogo.com/

Register on their site and tell them the problem. They will normally reply within hours, giving you clear instructions on how to first create a log of all the possible nasties on your machine (which is often more than you think). You send them a copy of the log, and they then provide additional instructions to suit your problem.

I had struggled with this trojan for weeks (and I'm in the software business!), but they cleaned me up in a bout 4 exchanges of email.

One of the best utilities to deal with these things is HiJackThis. You download it and run it plus saving a logfile.

Once this has been checked for 'nasties' (post it on here, someone will identify them ) you need to turn of 'system restore' before using HJT to remove the infection, then reboot PC and then, and only then, turn the system restore facility back on.
