How much are you paying for a service cost?

Just had an annual and 6,000 mile service cost £219.70 at Cannons.

Anyone had strange items added?

Dust cap 1.83
Bolt 3.02 ???????/

Are they taking the piss?

Yes! I reckon you've paid £100 over the odds. Have you been rolled for an annual service as well?

Look here for a realistic idea of service costs at Balderstons.

Adam :)

Why an Annual and a 6,000 at the same time. Either either or I thought, 6,000 at BVM around £135 including
Screenwash
Dust Cap???
good deal on a new bike while I'm waiting and a brand new K1200 as a loan bike.
This was a few months ago mind.

Those prices are good, if I'd been charged that in the past I doubt I'd have started to do my own servicing. However now I've started I think I'll continue, nothing I've done so far has been difficult and I know it is getting done.

The dealer services I had 37k £373.83 (& I'd done a lot of the work myself) , 30k £101.30, 24k £361.89, 18k £182.84, 12k £196.80, 6k £244.58(inc new rear Tourance) & 600 mile £40.22

In the past I've been charged for replacing the brake fluid on an ABS brake system I don't have, 'Menu item pricing sir, that's just how it's shown on the bill' then discover there is a big difference in price between ABS and non ABS brakes. Did it myself last weekend, only took 15 minutes to do both back and front, why pay £40.04 + vat for a dealer to do it.

Home service 48k less than £100 for parts/oil etc. & a few enjoyable hours in the garage. Changed all the fluids, filters and pads.

Dust cap may be the wee rubber cap that you have to remove to check for TDC when adjusting the valve clearances. It has a tendency to fall inside your engine when putting it back on. Their mistake if they did it and you shouldn't be charged for a new one. Servicing charges are a joke for what is very straightforward stuff. Do it yourself if you have the time, space and tools.

To be fair, I'm suprised you went to Cannons at all. Any experience I've had with them has been far from satisfying, and the attitude of the grey haired guy that deals with servicing is crap.

Instead, I go all the way to Vines in Guildford, the difference in attitude is quite something. Made to feel welcome, free hot drinks.
Friendly faces that have time to talk to you, and really seem to have an interest in the customer.

Cannons wont be getting any more of my money.

Do they, rip you off? Can't say, but wouldnt put it past them.

Buy yourself both the Haynes and Clymer manuals and do the servicing yourself.
O.K.,with a new bike there may be warranty issues, but with an 'older' BMW, the routine servicing is so simple you can't really go wrong, plus,if you read through the relevant sections in the manual before you start and there is something you are not too certain of,there's always the Forum to ask.
The costs for servicing in England are unbelievable.
Here,in France, the local BMW dealer,(authorised), charges 24 euros an hour plus tva.
Technicians? Fitters more like!

Harwich is the place to go for BM servicing in Essex;)
