Service costs?

My bike is due a 12k service and the dealer has quoted £400 which includes new plugs?
Part of the sales pitch was, that it was due a recall on the fuel pump and this would be done during the service.
An independent has quoted £230 so I feel I may be paying for the recall work?

What prices have others had and will they do the recall work if I get the service elsewhere?

mine was £320 at Dalkeith , 12,000 miles inc plugs brakes etc and all the recall stuff was sorted

Tell them to do the recall which is free and then go to the independent for the service work.

Just paid £195 at Astles, which included the recall work. Not a 12k service, but included engine, gearbox and final drive oil change plus brake fluid change. Had valves and balance done last service, not many miles ago. This price was after refusing to pay £235. Haggle and negotiate but be realistic as they have business to run.

12k service, full and all fluids changed £335.00 quoted by Rainbow last week.
Ferking cost me a lot more applied man logic and swapped the GS for a GSA instead service included!

£400 is about right for a BMW dealer.

But as others have said, let them do the recall work FOC and have the actual service done by your preferred independent (or do most of the work yourself and just get them do the jobs you don't have the ability/confidence/kit to do at home).

Even if you have them do the whole job, you can still save a significant amount by sourcing oil, plugs and filters yourself.

It`s a 2011 twin Cam but do they really need changing at 12k?
I have a Harley with one plug per cylinder and that is recommended to go until 30k

Should try a 48k service now that eye watering, Plugs altnerator belt etc etc

The price difference is probably due to different hourly rates. A BMW dealer will always charge more because he has all the BMW corporate stuff and that nice warm showroom packed with their latest icons to pay for.

Never been an issue for me. But with labour charged at BMW dealer hourly rates, will they really miss a few quid on the oil + parts?

I would think that if a BM dealership refuses to do recall work, I would get it in writing or record it and then be informing BMW Motorrad UK especially if there is the possibility that it is safety related. Fair enough it will probably be fitted in when they are quiet but they should be duty bound to carry out the work

My local are to do the recall on mine next week. Not booked in for a service or any other work. Just for the fuel pump check.
It's never been serviced by them whilst I've owned it either.
