I've been looking around at used 950's and 990's.
Almost every one has somehow had it's service book / history 'lost' (usually blaming the previous keeper who 'definitely had it serviced') which in my book usually means that the owner didn't fancy paying for dealer servicing so didn't bother and 'misplaced' the documentation.

How much does a dealer oil change / valve clearances cost?

Hard to believe, I always keep reciepts for oils and other parts as I service my bikes.

As do I for my GS which I home service but I also have the fully dealer stamped service book which covered the first 14 years of its life.

I've asked about service histories on five 'for sale' 950 / 990's of various ages, a couple of them sub 15k miles. Not one of them had a service book available and all but one had no actual receipted proof of any oil changes / valve clearances although the owners of all of them of course assured me that they had 'been serviced' (usually while in the possession of the previous owner) ;) Now I'm not saying that sellers are telling fibs but as we all know, 'losing' the service book is an easy way to hide missed services...

Given the relatively long winded (and hence costly) nature of service operations on LC8 engined KTM's, I'm not that surprised by this but as I'm only interested in relatively well 'looked after' bikes, it means there are less to choose from...

Had the same issue with service histories when I was looking. Decided to buy privately (downside no real comeback) but offset that against the fact that you can make a judgement about the previous owner and hopefully pay a lower price as well.
Enquired at JD in Saltash (my nearest KTM dealer) who quoted £300.
Unless someone here knows better, oil to spec is around £45 for 4 litres and filters £25. (Who is the vendor of choice for DIY parts?)
Has to be a three hour job at least assuming you know what your doing.

The oil and filter change was around £200 but as that also means taking the tank off (crazy for an oil change) then a lot of the work is the same.

Some clever basket must have found a way of doing an oil change with the tanks in situ?
N
As an owner of some 4 days you should of course dismiss anything I say out of hand.

Just had my 18k service, oil, filters, valves, plugs and front pads plus they re set the steppers on the throttle etc.....best part of £400.
Must say though it came back much improved

No probs mate, I was wondering who that geezer was
