I'm looking for an 1150GS, and I have found a couple so far.

The only problem is that the one I'm looking at doesn't have any service history.
It's done 46000 miles and the only proof of servicing and MOT are for the last 1000 miles.

Should I be concerned by this?

A lot of these bikes are owner serviced, the mileage is not scary, any chance of contacting the previous owner ?
Other than that perhaps get an independant or tosser to look it over with you, what is the general condition like ?and does it ride properly? does it have any modifications or improvements, somebody on here might even know the bike?

It is currently advertised on here at the moment.
So far as I'm aware, the previous owner is unreachable.

What worries me, is that the bike is about 180 miles away from me - so it'd be a long way to travel just to turn back and come home - bike-less!

It looks stunning, and is otherwise perfect for me. I'm just worried that I might get burned by my first GS - and I don't want my dreams to be spoiled!

The bike looks really clean, beautiful even - Surely I should be more concerned with what's inside, no? Surely if it hadn't been properly serviced then it wouldn't always show on the outside?

More often than not, if they look good on the outside, then they've been well maintained.

There are of course exceptions.

Like my bike - well maintained on the inside, but ratty as f*ck to look at! :D

That is indeed a handsome bike at a good price.

1150's are pretty reliable and very easy to do your own servicing on, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. If there is, as you say, service history for the past 1000 miles then I would be happy enough with that if the bike rides well and feels good.

At the end of the day it's your money and your call, but if I were in the market I would definately consider it. :)
