after a diy service, how do I reset the service warning on the dash. Can I do it with a special sequence of button pushes like on my car or is it a laptop / software job? 2008 gs with computer

Laptop software I believe. Had mine kindly done by Steptoe. On my 2010 it also shut down the stepper motors (whatever they are) and balanced the throttle bodies etc..I believe.

thanks but at that price I think I'll simply ignore the service warning.

ask on the forum, many members have 1 and will be happy to assist in resetting for small donations. I'd say how much but that might set a tone...

I've got a gs-911 others have - someone in Wales must be rich enough to afford one - ask around.

Unless they have the professional model of the GS911 a service reset would use up one of the limited lives of VIN/chassis numbers available on the unit. ;)

I personally think the GS-911 is pricey but they dont have any competitors.

But, maybe its a pig of a job to get it working and they deserve the money because nobody else will bother.

Get a bunch of folks together locally and buy one between you.

Surely the dealer is an option? I plan to do my own services from now on and thought I would leave just the oil change to the dealer and do the rest. They would re-set the service indicator at the same time.

oooh. interesting. I think this going on the xmas shopping list (need to over this redundancy crap first and get a job!!)

I'm not sure that is too expensive - it represents the money saved on one service doing it yourself.

Twooo, I bet if I sold the bike down the line, some other punter would buy it from me second hand with 9 VIN capability for, say, half price.

Thanks for the info chaps :beerjug:

But an oil change isn't a service ???
Why would they reset the service indicator when they haven't serviced the bike ?

If you are not competent to change the oil and filter how much of the remaining service (Valve clearance, TB setting) wont be done either.....:blast

I presume our man was considering going to the dealer to obtain an oil and filter change in order to be there to get them to reset the service warning. However, as Steptoe correctly points out - why would they do it if they haven't serviced the bike?
They wouldn't stamp the book either, would they? Would you in their position...

Surely the cheapest option is to ignore it. Message only flashes up for a second or so.
Keep your receipts for oil and filters etc.
For larger jobs for the not so competent, such as brake fluid change and valve clearances, get the dealer or an independent to do it and keep the receipt.

Anybody purchasing the bike will be happy.
