This really annoyed me.

I thought this is what you do with respect to servicing ..

If you do more than or around 6,000 miles a year .. you follow the Service then Inspection schedule.

If you do less than those miles you do an annual inspection .. just to make sure your bike is in good order.

Now I went to Battersea to get my booked stamped and having a chat with the nice lady there ... I found out that you have to do Service , inspection and Annual inspection irrespective of mileage. My bike has never had an Annual inspection done but has followed the mileage schedule. So my bike is an 05. It's had its 600, 6000 and 12000 miles services in the two years. No annual service, which the first one would have been due when I bought it from a BMW dealer on the APPROVED scheme.

My question to those of you who know .. does it matter mechanically? Or is it something someone (like a BMW salesman) use against me financially only when I come to sell it? :nenau

Yes to both Novice.
Annual inspection covers different things, brake fluid/clutch fluid/battery etc that are not included in xxx mile service.
Bummer innit.

Another way of puting it would be to say :rtfm:thumb

OH shit!

I think I will get it all done 18,000 mile service and the annual inspection when I get back from the big trip to Istanbul.

My dealer told me they include the annual service in the 6000 miles service, makes good sense to me... its an expensive past time riding these bikes!

Your 05 bike is out of warranty, Novice. Why don't you download the service schedules and then either do the vital bits yourself or take it to a competent independent dealer....and save yourself a lot of money?

Where do you download the schedules?

They are talking out their respective arse.
If you do less than 6000 miles a year you have the annual service/inspection, which is a combination of the 6000 miles service and the 12000
If you do over 6000 you get the normal service intervals, 6000 & 12000
But you must also remember that at 2 yearly intervals additional things must be changed

Latest schedule

http://www.ascycles.com/bmw_motorcycle_service_and_maintenance_schedules.aspx

The latest ones. At least the same as on the RepROM maintenance DVD 2007

Biggest difference I can see are the brake fluid changes,

went from 1 to 2 years for the wheel circuits and
from 2 to 4 years for the control circuit.

Could be that it changed when they changed the AB system from FTE Automotive to Continental/Teves...

Though when I went for a service around the 2 year mark the mechanic checking me in followed those new intervals.

They really do bang on about some of these schedules.............how hard can it really be to maintain our bikes.............?

Having had a few of these things over almost 20 years now I reckon that they get us to worry too much.

As for resale worries - if trading in have you ever seen the dealers that worried about checking your service records? If you look after the bike properly, keep it clean and do the servicing that it needs...........rather than paying for someone to check your clutch fluid level, check you pad thickness, lube your foot peg pivots. If selling privately I have always found a sensible buyer to be reasonable in his assesment of the bike.......if he / she can see that you have a sensible workshop etc.......

Anyway, must dash........got to go and lube my clutch plates and polish my brakes.
