Ok so it's not a GS but this worked on my 2010 RT twincam

I bought a icom lead from chinacardiag. This is not fully wired as only 6 cores are connected, but it includes the 5 needed for the 2010 1200RT twin cam. This took about 3 weeks to come but you may get a uk supplied one

And a lead k-Dcan cable from bcables in the uk this comes with a load of software but this does not cover motorcycles. Other cables are available but this one works for me and was delivered very quickly

I bought Ista d from https://diagnose-software.myshopify.com ... 6325266183. This is the full BMW diagnostic package and covers bikes up to Jan 2016 and most BMW cars as well. You can get ista d in several place but only recent versions do bikes.

This is a digital download and is massive. The instructions are correct but not the easiest to follow. I used Jdownloader and it takes a couple of hours, you need a fair amount of free space on your hard drive,

Diagnose faults, callibrate your screen! Callibrate your idle valves, callibrate your fuel strip apparantly and even reset your service indicator. All for under £60.

Once loaded the only problem I had was solved by changing the com port in device manager.

Hope this is helpful

I have Icom amongst a load of other diagnostic machines, used for my work.
Icom has to be the hardest to set up , it's a nightmare.
If I didn't need it for work, I would have just bought a 911

I don't know about Icom it's ISTA D once loaded it seems to work fine ok it's 20gb so you need a bit of spare space but hey under£60 compared to a GS911

Whilst I have reset the service light and synced the idle actuators, I am not able to perform all the service functions. This may be down to the lead so I am investigating further.

this is a good post ,and to be honest i service my own bike as do many ,but the service light is an issue ,i just pay a guy a few quid to plug his gs911 in and do the reset
i suspect your workings/findings are brilliant but very complicated ,well they are to me :thumb

I am still struggling to get everything working. But turning off the service light was my main aim. The software is complex but for £9 worth a go. I will give an update when I have cracked it. It seems the k1300 guys have worked this out a couple of years ago but somehow this hadn't crossed over the the r community.

brilliant, because i will be the first to buy and use the kit if its simple, and my laptop can cope with it:thumb

It's a pain to load and setup , I paid £99 for the supply and install of full Istan d and p setup, as whilst I had Istan d working I couldn't get Ista p to work.
Service lights are simple .

Good job mate! I don't want to be negative here but this kind of generic cables are normally a nightmare with drivers and comm ports, it will also depend on what type of OS you're running it on, etc...

Had a similar experience with the boat I had running the Yamaha diagnostic tool, it allowed me to do some basic diagnostic, reset service light, etc but not much more info that I already had on the displays.

When I did the service on the GS, I actually took it to the BMW dealer to get rid of the service light. Paid less than 20 Euros (I think it was actually around 16) and they gave the bike a general inspection, reset the service light and even washed it for me, including taxis back and forth to work and a lovely coffee. I'll definitely do that again next year :P

Cheers,
Rami
