Morning all
2 part question so please bear with me :0)
2011 R1200gs and the word "Service" has appeared at the bottom of the display - im guessing this is to warn me a service is needed.
Im not bothered about the intervals or the warnings as i change oil and filters every 3 K or close to as a matter of course but
Q1 - will having the warning trigger effect anything else in a bad way??? i have had cars n wagons in the past that start to loose performance
Q2 - given Q1 above whats the cheapest way to reset the service triggers

TIA

Service means your are
either within xx miles of the service requirement or days months ... Its more likley the former

Three ways to extinguish the light - message

Dealership :)
GS911 Dongle & SW
Motoscan Dongle & SW

All ways will cost I'm afraid, unless you can find somone with a Pro GS911

& no nothing will change performance wise with the light on .... you may think it, or think you thunked it ... but its not true

You could find someone with a GS-911, that can clear it for you (it would take one of their license slots AFAIK.
You'll find loads on ebay offering the service reset function for a price.
Alternatively go for the Motoscan app with a dongle.

Edit. Santa beat me to it!

How much would a dealer charge to get rid of a service sign typically?

I had my service done at a mottorrad dealer and because I had changed all the oils myself they wouldn’t delete the service light although they did stamp my service booklet.
i have just ordered a wifi dongle To use with the Motoscan app which will enable me to delete the light but also check other things on the bike .

Service warning has just come on mine (2010 GSA) - had already it booked in for service but not until 20th of this month - so there will be a few extra 100 miles on it by then - which doesn't concern me tbh.

If think they allow 1500 miles over the stated service mileage . I questioned this with my extended warranty supplier and that’s what I was told .

loads of informative answers - cheers BUT.........

where do i buy either
GS911 Dongle & SW
Motoscan Dongle & SW
and get some info on set up and use???

TIA

the GS911 (the red ones) is continuing some interesting development and has a few extras (if you buy a wifi version, as it uses wifi to grab data whilst doing stuff), tool comes at significant cost

the motoscan app is very capable and you can easily turn off the service nag, or reset if that's your bag, funny my first GS jun 2007 build never had the nag enabled, the 2010 one does as did my k1300 - its nicer off

this UK seller does one of the best "dongles" out there - its the one built by the experts that wrote motoscan

u also need the silly round adapter - but this site is pricey

you can get direct from the manu

his dongle *you'll need to use translate service

he's not that good at keeping his site updated - he more in to making the tools work than marketing - web design

google infected for lazy people

why u need the WIFI version of a GS911

I'm saying you want the RED wifi model - and no one should buy the silly round one - get the real one all bikes from 2016 use and then adapt back to the arc....

to do more advance features it uses wifi to talk to base and grab the info to make it possible

Are you just programmed to be a troll? or is there a disconnect between what you think / see/ type

Why would you buy a post 2016 unit if you have a pre 2016 TC or hexhead,

Clearly you hadn't read the Hex page or understood it

All the wifi units - Post 2016 change or Pre 2016 are cross compatible with the right lead, so a pre (round pin) unit is capable of reading a post square unit with the adaptor

Just as a Post 2016 unit will read a pre 2016 bike with the relevant lead

Why would someone buy a unit that they need to plug an adaptor cable into when the correct plugged unit is readily available?

The only one that isn't cross compatible is the yellow bluetooth version.

are you programmed to be rude and to hold people back ?

I recco the right one because its a better more useful device - they support 10 bikes and since 2016 all bikes use the grown up socket .....

and cloud features USB to the PC and wifi to hex

I can reset the service light.
Other services that do that on ebay, I'm one of those.

So I've got Motoscan on an old Android phone and the wifi dongle ELM327 which lets me connect to my 2012 twin-cam. I can read
my bike and clear fault codes etc but it won't let me reset the service indicator. Do I need to upgrade to the "PRO" version to
do the service reset ?
