Servicing - Oils

motul 300v all the way, my LC ( and my other bikes ) have had it in from new 15-50, none of the piss thin shite ..gearbox silky smooth

Grim, just ordered all the service items from Motorworks and Amazon (engine oil and FD oil). Once I'm done, I'd like to take you up on the offer of using your GS911 to reset the service indicator.

Thanks. I'm happy to potter through this week or wait till you get back. The oil has arrived but I won't get the plugs and filter etc till sometime this week. I'll work around you...

Yes the light's on now. If you give me a day this week (not Mon or Tue) and a place to meet in Stockton I'll come through and get out of your hair.

Today would be good, I'm in all afternoon, Wednesday or Thursday evening after 6pm, Friday I'm popping down to Otley in the morning, will be back by 5, Saturday I'll be loading the car up ready for Le Mans, it only takes a few minutes, so any time.

Just had an email from Amazon about Castrol Power 1 Racing 5W-40 4T for £5.74 in delivery.

Seems a bargain so just ordered some :)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Castrol-Po...3904&sr=8-7&keywords=power+1+racing+4t+10w-40

The link states 10W-40 but leads to a 5W-40 for £13.43 a litre......

Be careful as 10W-40 is usually cheaper than the 5W-40. I got some Castrol last year from Germany which worked out to £29 for 4L delivered but that had already climbed to £38 even before the EUxit.

you need to watch the link. I bought from amazon on Fri on the same link and it was priced at £7.57 a litre with free delivery - so I bought 4 and it arrived yesterday.

You've lost me?

I thought 5W40 was the correct oil? I just followed my own link and it looks correct to me unless I'm missing something obvious?

I'm also presuming that if I take the bike to BMW and outline that the filters, plugs, oils etc are done they will still check the valve clearances, reset the service message and stamp the book?

In my country no dealer would stamp the book if they themself had not done the service. It would be illegally and forgery with the possible outcome of a punishment.

I did mine including changing three shims without a problem. Take your time, buy the corrrect Castrol Power 1, 4T oil off EBAY for around £30 for four litres + the shms. The only problem I had is waiting for the replacement shims to arrive (couple of days, ordered from EBAY, same size as KTMs)

Yes, you're right. It's a while since I bought it because I buy it in bulk but when I do I ensure it's the right specification

Sorry, I think my original question was lost in translation. My question (poorly articulated) was whether the dealer would stamp the book for the work they had done (the valve check). It's a moot point, I'm doing it all myself, signing the book and keeping all the receipts.
