Servicing outside BMW whilst under warranty

Is it a Motorrad warranty?
Curious why Brigg suggested using Laceby…..🤔
I had the same thought. If Rainbow isn't interested, it's probably a Third party warranty. Which often aren't worth the paper they're written on.

The dealer won't really want to do it either. Which where I agree having a good relationship with your dealer "might" help.

But if you have a used bike with a third party warranty, you won't have bought it from them in the first place. New or used.

Is it a Motorrad “used” warranty?

"If it’s the manufacturers 3 year warranty then it’s not a problem as long as genuine parts are used & it’s carried out to the bmw schedule. However if it’s the extended warranty (a third party insurer)Then it has to be a VAT registered business. I am NOT vat registered." - that was his reasoning.

That makes sense, cheers.
I know Brigg isn't/wasn't VAT-registered though I've never heard anything other than positives about the op.

Oh I was not in any way questioning his workmanship, I've gotten nothing but good.

Just that bloody warranty..

Rainbow 🌈 Workshop is excellent for service and workmanship
Many folks take all manner of 1300 (some for the first 600 mile first service) and 1250 GS’s so most people prefer quality individual service, over main dealer workflow servicing

Just a small update on this one. Phoned BMW Grimsby

£285 inc VAT for oil change, rear bevel oil, brake fluid change. They don't do MOT (weird for a dealership)..

If you’re anywhere near Beverley try R&M Motorcycles for the MOT

Having read the foregoing, all I want to say is …. Moto Revive, please move to the North East
was just going to say... Over here in Holland there are no indepdants that I am aware of and almost all the big franchises are now under monopoly control of one Company called ''Dusseldorp''. They have taken over the 2 major dealers in The Netherlands, the one in The Hague which was the biggest and the one in Rotterdam. The one in Rotterdam was a smaller concern taken over by 2 mates that went it alone with a new franchise back in 2015. I bought 3 new GS(A)'s from them over the years as they were the onlty ones interested in actually talking about a deal. Only end of last year both old blokes retired and it was bought out.
I liken it exactly to the the point above on McDonalds. Very sad really and I would love to find an independant that would look after my GSA.
Exasperating really.....

Still not clear if BMW stipulate servicing is done at Motorrad when you extend warranty beyond the standard 3 years ?
They do not. Nor do they do so for approved used two year warranty.

It also doesn't have to be a VAT registered garage yet that myth resurfaces continually.

Not wanting to derail the thread or take it off-topic, but do we have a consolidated page or section on this very forum for listing and reviewing independents? Having a list of trusted indies around the country would be really useful for everyone I should have thought- including promoting the good ones!

Rainbow garage said he's not VAT registered so it must have some truth if he is willing to send business away with that fact..

@Paul G (BHT) ?

Another massive thumbs up for Steve at Rainbow.

After a fucking horror show at main dealers Steve has looked after loads of bike for me.

Top notch bloke, great service.

I still go there despite him moving further away every few years, I don’t think that’s due to me. 😂

A sticky listing all the BMW independents in this thread maybe?

the sticky already in that section has not aged well! It is very out of date as far as franchised dealers is concerned. The same would apply to a thread about independents as they come and go, then come again and go again and come back if we are talking about Ted!
