Servicing outside BMW whilst under warranty

the sticky already in that section has not aged well! It is very out of date as far as franchised dealers is concerned. The same would apply to a thread about independents as they come and go, then come again and go again and come back if we are talking about Ted!
Yes the 15 year old BMW sticky is well out of date, will hopefully be updated next week.

Rainbow garage said he's not VAT registered so it must have some truth if he is willing to send business away with that fact..
I can only find that claim on forums but on no official source.

Here is what the current approved used warranty booklet says about servicing in the T&Cs.

"SERVICING YOUR BMW MOTORCYCLE. An Authorised BMW Motorrad Retailer reserves the right to reject any claim where the cause of the defect is due to non compliance with the service intervals recommended by the Manufacturer and or the Manufacturer’s recommendations for care and maintenance of the vehicle. If servicing has been carried out by a Non Authorised Workshop, the Authorised BMW Motorrad Retailer and/or BMW Motorrad Service Authorised Workshop reserve the right to reject any claim where the cause of the defect is due to inadequate servicing or the use of inadequate parts by the Non Authorised Workshop."

Perhaps he's not set up with genuine parts, oils and the AOS independent system.

Or his quote didn't take into account genuine parts and expensive oil ??
He is fully set up, but the Used Warranty, is insurance based and states that servicing must be done by a vat registered mechanic. Steve is not vat registered. That said, I will be taking my approved used bike to him for its annual service.

Not a bad decision tbh..

I thought as much. Third party insured warranty providers do require VAT registration. I'm not sure why. Accounting ? More likely it's just another trapdoor to avoid a claim.

The BMW insured warranty certainly doesn't require VAT registration for someone to service a bike they cover. But then you'd expect BMW to be more professional about it.
