So after a 11k's from The Wirral to Gibraltar living and sleeping next to the bike, (via Portugal, Faro bike festival, Basque country, Spain picos, Porto, etc) fully loaded 2up with guitar and amp we now returned safely to where we started and now on to West coast Ireland and my trusted 08 GS Adventure needs it's 36k M.

Any recommendations on where to go on the west coast of Ireland to have it looked after?

I’d say in sensor the photos and your going to get loads of help

You looking for full top to bottom service or just basic fluids?

Might be worth ringing meskells in limerick they are decent enough and so is Paul greaney in limerick

West coast is large area might be worth narrowing it down a bit more

In fairness, you can do most of it oneself. It’s the calves (now spell corrected- valves) and end float that take a bit of experience along with the balancing of the throttle bodies. Best done cold too, so I recon local is important.

Sensor in?

Yes the full one, although I'd prefer to do it myself as it's interesting (for me) I done all the oils, splines, bulbs, dwa, before the trip it'll be things on the 36k that I've no experience of ie bleeding brakes (the front lever clicks and is squeaky) 'calfs' or valves, throttle bodies etc but maybe I can do half of it to lower the labor cost? Service light is on so I want that OFF

Cheers for the links to Limerick, will give these guys a shout otherwise it'll be BMW Dublin!

Platinum motorcycles in Dublin good for servicing
As for where to go in the West we have the WAW ( wild Atlantic way)
Come and enjoy some nice twisty roads and beautiful scenery

We're in Athenrhy ATM and not planning on heading east if we don't have to unless it's worth it for the servicing, going to test out the 12pins and others... Looks good so far madpaddy!

There are a number of GSers in & around the Galway area but none seem to have seen this or they would have replied

If you're going clockwise Hursts in Belfast are Motorrad dealers & if you're going anti-clockwise it's Kearys in Cork. That way you don't have to come over this side at all ;)

Sean Griffin just up the road from me, good with BMW 086 1741668 he is a busy lad though.

OOPS I PUT IN THE WRONG NUMBER, CORRECTED NOW.

I'm in county Galway but there's a distinct lack of decent bike shops in the west (that I know of). From Athenry, it would take about an hour and a half up the motorway to Joe Duffy BMW in Dublin, obeying the speed limit. If you were anxious to get it done properly and get it done soon, that's what I'd do. Otherwise, as Jockster said, Belfast or Cork, depending on your route.

EDIT: Pat posted while I was writing - I hadn't heard of Seán Griffin before.

Perfect, not sure how to quote individually so cheers for all the contacts! Will ring around and fetch prices. If I would source the materials to do the oils, any idea of what the 36k service should cost?

+1 Andy Hourigan very good
Pm me if you need a number

Andy Hourigan, Newmarket, County Cork. Approx mid-way between Limerick and Cork
Ex-BMW technician. Very professional set-up.
Just an update for anyone interested, was somewhat in the area today called and advised just to pop in to Andy Hourigan's workshop, very nice people in there and the road/off road from fenit to Newmarket was goooood! up and down through the forest road, good fun!

Jobs : Carried out engine oil & filter, bled brake fluid front and rear flush, set valve clearance in .15 ex .30, run diagnostic, cleared faults (still showing service icon on dash though (?) Front to back checkup, bushes, bearings, throttle cable, head stock bearings, and I had already done the splines, FD and gear oil, but forgot about to request throttle bodies and air filter, €250 all in.

Noticed a bolt missing (see picture) can anyone just confirm that it should be as is?

These bikes are great aren't they, 2up fully loaded from the Wirral UK to Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar and back, then onto Ireland. 13k Kms on this trip so far and only had a gasket go on me at rear, and mechanic said just the valve needed adjusting. Happy chappy.

Ps as a UK citizen, I can't believe how much Paddy gets ripped off, everything is almost double in price over here. They had a promotion on in a newsagents, 3 bars of choc for €3! That was highlighted lol We usually get 4bars for £1!

Heskells in Limerick wanted €74 for the 15w50, and 12 I think for the filter so obviously didn't proceed with them compared to £31 for Castrol 4t 15w50 I normally use, they also suggested that I just use 10w40 but not sure on that one.
