Servo Pump Problems

Thats because they are schite (the Units not BBA)

If they recalled bikes for shocks they should have recalled bikes for these dangerous bastardin brakes!

BMW got away with it. Just as VW did over their emissions scandal and refusal to properly compensate car owners.

Emissions is one thing, brakes are really something they should have been held to account for.

I agree though BuMW will say they changed the design so all is fine. At least deleting the servo is not a big task. ABS was not common on bikes at that time, so simply removing it makes the bike no different to 95% of stuff on the road of that age. Today would be a lot different as ABS is now a requirement on all bikes.

The sad fact is that BMW like to do their own thing, often in fussy complicated way that don't add value for the user. The servo ABS is a great example. The strange back to front clutch is another and the weak rear wheel bearing is yet another.

Insurance post servoectomy

Has anyone had problems getting insurance after removing a servo and going to a non-abs configuration, Express insurance won't cover me despite explaining to them that on my 2004 bike the integral abs was an optional extra so therefore abs and non-abs are type approved by BMW?

They probably haven’t got a clue what you’re talking about, like most insurers. Try going elsewhere, for example

Does the V5 say anything about ABS? If so, get it updated. If not, then it never had ABS did it?

If I recall correctly, years ago somebody had Servo ABS faults which eventually were traced to the rear brake light cluster itself (don't ask me why). I know the 2004-2007 bikes had badly sealed rear lights which let in mud and water from the rear wheel causing corrosion to the lamp holder inside the unit, this somehow upset the Servo ABS maybe through a short circuit or backfeed perhaps ?

I know my old 2004 GS had a rotten internal brake light lamp holder when I checked it. Its no wonder the 2007 onward bikes went to a sealed LED brake light design. FWIW I hated the ServoABS on my 2004 bike and was glad when I upgraded to a 2008 GSA.

Either way, why not open up the rear brake light cluster and see what state it is in, it couldn't hurt matters and you might get lucky ?
