For some time I've been thinking about doing our blogs on our own website. Currently we use blogger. I now do most of my simple stuff on the iPad 2 and if possible would like to retain this option, ie have an option to run the site from various remote machines. From what many peeps have posted here, the process can be fairly straightforward, but I suspect this is because quite a bit of thought has gone into the process before starting the project, and hence avoiding problems down the line. I'm looking at Wordpress as it has an iPad app, but really haven't committed at this stage. Does anyone here have suggestions to make, and point me in the right direction. Many thanks for any suggestions.

Personally I am not very keen on wordpress but it's more a personal thing than anything else. What makes you think you can't continue using blogger? There are apps avaliable for that too and blogger gets a far higher audience than wordpress. You shouldn't need to use any special apps for it anyway as the web interface has about a 99% browser compatability especially on a 10" screen.

Hi Marki. Agree with most of what you say. Currently using blogpress app to post to blogger. It's not perfect, and the developer has had a upgrade package waiting with Apple for quite some time. Some functions of the app just don't work, ie save locally, and others cause it to crash with loss of all work, and then the need to uninstall and reinstall the app to get it to work.
As far as blogger in a browser window on the iPad, using safari there isn't full functionality. You can't add photos or video to the blog as the buttons are greyed out.
None of the issues are insurmountable, but it caused me to think about possible alternatives, and hence the idea of having my own website/ blog, hopefully with more control over its functions.

Ps have just noticed the new official Blogger app released by Google. Will give it a try. Might be the reason that Apple are holding out on Blogpress.

That's really odd that it doesn't work with Safari properly. Admittedly I don't have any experience with an iPad as I am an Android user but I would still have expected Google to get it to work with Safari. I take it you have tried the official Google Blogger app and it didn't work out for you?

Yeah. They want permission to manage my photos, access to my email, etc etc etc . Not sure I'm cool with that.

I'm not sure what they mean by manage my photos, so not keen on that. Also it's an IPhone app, and not an iPad app, so not fully exploiting iPad's abilities.
