There is no doubt the secret is in the initial fitting of it and though I have become quite proficient at fitting them I always take the helmet to the shop and get them to fit it for me prior to handing over my hard-earned - that way if they screw it up they start again (their risk not mine

)
Trying to re-apply after an initial attempt always (in my experience) shortens the life span considerably. Also following the instructions to the letter helps too - like not using the helmet after inital install but letting it 'settle' overnight etc.
The bit about not recommended for use at night though I think is an American way of saying additional layers increases problems with light refraction, as do wearing spectacles, scratched visors, dirty visors - but no more so in my book.
They are just covering their arses. As are McDonalds when they print on the outside of a coffee cup - 'warning contents may be hot' fer crissakes!!!
Sure one the main negative point is the light refraction thing but I don't wear glasses so I don't suffer unduly and its far outweighed by being able to see on a cold day without lifting the very thing which is there to protect me from the elements. The alternatives, gloop, bob heath, fairy liquid all require far more effort than I'm prepared to accept in this instance.
