shaft????????

How long is a piece of string?.
I think you have to be a wheelie maniac to bugger up a drive shaft.
I've heard of a splined end snapping off and a couple of instances of the bonded (inside the shaft) rubber coming loose causing a prolem which feels like a badly slipping clutch.
If you smell burning rubber coming from your shaft area, that's the clue.:D

Mine was on its way out at 52K - could feel a slight notchiness in the rear UV joint with the shaft out. Gearbox end UJ was fine. I couldn't feel anything wrong when riding the bike and of course I've no idea how long the bearings would have held together in that state.

Splines showed no sign of wear.

Guess I'm saying the only way to know for sure is to strip the shaft out -unless of course its so far gone that its noticable when you ride.

Beware - the things cost stupid money to buy new. I was quoted around £60 to replace one pair of bearings. Managed to get a very nice s/h one off fleabay.

155,000 miles-then when they go there's a bit of vibration like having dodgy paralever bearings then a big bang and a horrible grinding noise. Then the drivetrain locks up. Stop at this point.

When my bottom UJ went on mine you could hear it clicking when pushing the bike without the engine running. Pulling away it was pretty noisy too, like someone clicking their fingers. I reckon you'll only get the rubber smell if you're into drivetrain abuse or have a epileptic clutch hand:augie
