Hi

I just fitted on of theses to give it a try.

Question for anyone who uses one:
What do you do in the rain?

Cheers

Barry

hope you have waterproof trousers on.

Yup :thumb

I only use it for long tours and once it's on, it stays on till I get home. Looks worse than it is - as long as you've got waterproofs on, you don't feel the wet (and they dry quickly).

Gives others a laugh at rest stops though :D

generally sheep are waterproof :) so there shouldn't be anything to worry about other than getting wet (you and the sheep)

I generally only use mine on a tour (day in day out riding) and so I'll take it off overnight and store it in the pannier to prevent birds, dew, or rain settling in…… (unless it's wet from the days riding in which case I take it indoors to dry it out)

However if the day starts dry then the sheepskin goes on the bike and stays on all day, and quite often I still use it when the day starts wet (waterproof trousers )

To be fair they generally dry out quite quickly when on the bike I guess due to the airflow.

If mine gets wet I take it off and strap it over my luggage when the rain stops. I get strange looks as it looks like I have been poaching or collecting road-kill.:D

+1 mine was from easy rider company and just pulls over the seat in a few seconds with a good fit. simple to take off and store in a pannier at stops for lunch/ overnight if rain due on long tours and no need to fit otherwise

When touring with sheepskin covers on I used a Trekmates Backpack Raincover (pretty sure it is a medium) and it covered both seats fine and was quick and easy to put on. Took up very little room in panniers (far less than the sheepskin covers would) and had no problems with leaving it on the bike overnight while parked up in various areas. Cost about £7 when I got mine. Can also be used as a backpack cover

Trekmates Backpack Raincover will give you the extra protection you need to keep your gear dry when the elements turn against you.

Features:
Lightweight waterproof ripstop fabric
Elasticated drawcord
Packs away in its own stuff sack

Do these things actually make a difference comfort wise on a long day?
I've never sat on a sheep so dont know how comfortable they are!

The sheepskin on its own made a definite difference for me - definitely reduced the ache / sores after long days. However I now use mine over a Putnams inflatable cushion (the sheepskin holds it in place) which makes even more difference. Just did a 10 hr day from Tobermory to home and although knackered, didn't have a sore arse (ooh er missus).

I got mine from Lambland (as in the link above).

+1 :thumb for the inflatable cushion, with a very small amount of air, and it's like an airhawk. Cushion came from Blacks (camping pillow) in an end of season sale (about £5 - so worth a trial).

The sheepskin has some movement in it between skin and top of wool and so you're not in direct contact with the seat. Thus it allows some movement and air under your bum, which also keeps you a little bit cooler (although it doesn't make the bike look cool - It is a GS so who cares)

Black sheep of the family I see...

I got the mad cow design and wish I'd got the plain black instead.

Stealthy black is the way to go :thumb2
