Shelton Mallet Classic Bike Show Feb 7/8th

I'm intending to be there again this year. I usually do the round trip on the 1150GSA but it all depends on the weather (I could be using a large 4x4 :blast).

I'm aiming to be there on the Saturday so I'll miss you this year.

I'm looking forward to it - it kicks the season off for me (though its still winter for a couple months up here).

Bob.

Paula and I will be there on the Taunton club stand. We will be there on both days and are taking the Douglas Dragonfly this year. Look forward to seeing some of you.

Andy

Me and JustStan will be there on Saturday:thumb2

Had a great weekend. Good to meet you Bob and thanks for visiting our stand. It was good to catch up with Devon and enjoy a natter over a bacon butty. :D His P11 looked fantastic and I was blown away to discover on Sunday morning that my Douglas won first prize in the post war class.

Good to meet you too Andy - small world, our parents lived in the same little village in Somerset :thumb.

That P11 certainly was nice :green gri.

That's a good result with the Dragonfly, Andy, well done (did you get the Douglas brochures from that chancer ? :augie).

I was looking for some Classic bike bits in the Autojumble but didn't see anything worth having. I guess e-Bay has killed that outlet :blast.

I had a good day there and caught up with a few people then I left at 17:30 and drove home (Edinburgh) arriving at 01:00. There was freezing fog North of Lancaster so I was glad I was in a huge, comfy 4x4 :D :D.

I have 260 pictures to put up on Photobucket - that is going to take a long time.

Now all we need is some warm, dry weather :augie.

Bob.

Nice one Andy and Paula, the quality of bikes on display was very high and the Douglas taking a first at such a prestigious event shows what a lovely bike it is :beerjug: It was an enjoyable weekend, as well as the Douglas taking best pre war bike Mike won best American with his Indian and our club won second best stand which awarded a decent cash prize to go towards the stand at future Classic events. The P11 was used for a photo shoot at the end of the show which will be used in a forth coming Classic Bike Guide article so it was a busy show all round.
Sorry to miss you this year Bob, when your wheels start turning they really roll! Voyager by name voyager by nature, hopefully catch up with you again sooner rather then later :thumb2

I'm not surprised, the Indian was very well turned out :thumb.

It was an 867-mile round trip for me which was no problem in a Toyota Landcruiser 'Amazon' (the 37 Gallons of diesel was more of a problem ). I felt a bit of a fraud not using a bike :blast.

See you around, Andy.

Bob.

Some pics from Shepton Mallet (it takes a long time for me to upload them :blast):

I suppose I'd better concentrate on BMWs :D.

G Cleaver was showing this nice 1964 R60 on the Cotswold M/C Club stand:

Compare that to M Warren's 1960 R60 on the Wells Classic M/C Club stand:

And an even older one - I. Clark's 1928 'R57' on the Wessex Section of the VMCC stand:

The Dick Lovett Motorrad stand had this R90S (with leg shields :nenau):

I heard someone say "if you go down there you will see 'God' building a wheel. And you know what . . They were right :D.

The robes have been replaced by a leather jacket but he's kept the sandals :thumb.

And there was a Sunbeam S7 for sale in the 'Tools' Hall:

I was there as an Honorary Official of "The Bath Classic M/C Club" (I am a member :augie). One of the members had found this . . anyone heard of a 'Hurtu' - its a new one on me .

Well done Andy. A proper British Boxer! Was having a chat with Bob last week and he said he bumped into you. Also mentioned your H2O woes of last year. Sorry to hear about that and hope it's all sorted now.

Cheers

Peter (may change my site name to Cubbuster!)

Some great pictures Bob, there are one or two Nimbus getting around now. The one at the show was painted a bit too Lego for my liking but each to his own.
I am surprised the Sunbeam S7 wasn't sold by the end of the show, it seemed okay and had all the correct tinware. Compared to the prices of some of the bikes in the auction that were only fit to be used as anchors really, the Sunbeam S7 and S8 in the auto jumble weren't out the way price wise with a bit of negotiation thrown in.
I am hoping to get to mainland Europe for a couple of events this year rather then travel the UK as it can all get a bit déjà vu after a while. Moto Pistons is one of the best I get to and I will get there again this year hopefully, maybe on the Nimbus :)

I was tempted with that Sunbeam Andy. If my present situation wasn't so bad I'd have most likely bought it. Sadly it looks like most of my bikes will have to be sold at sometime unless a miracle happens with my eyes.

Thanks Peter (Cubbuster). Sadly, things are not yet sorted and it will be at least another 5 months before we get our home back. Incidentally your old Cub's not running yet. JD is notorious for not finishing one project before he moves to another.

Great pictures of the show Bob. HERE'S a link to our club website with Paula's report and more pictures.

Andy

Hey up Devon. Have you still got the Mystique

I sold it a few months back MATKAT. They are still available for sensible money but their value seems to be going up so grab one when you can.
