It is with a heavy heart that I have to bring the news to this forum that Shenzi passed away today. Many of you may know that he lived in the south of France with his wife and two children. He gave up riding his beloved R1200GS a few months ago due to his illness.
There are many people here who have benefited from his knowledge of routes around this area, and I think that he may have met many of you.

Big Bob has been in touch with a few in here during the past few months
and asked to keep it quiet about his illness. He'd been fighting cancer for 10yrs and by the sound of him I widnae like to fight him for 10 seconds.
He called me last week to say goodbye and in the next breath he said he wouldn't mind the new Multistrada:blast

Quite a few enjoyed his hospitality and advice in fact there was a thread the other day thanking him, cannae mind but it was a bloke on an RT.

Would have loved to have seen his face when a Haggis and a black pudding turned up in his post:D

Bob has a family that he loved and is extremely proud of and never missed a chance to sing there praises you can't get a better legacy than that. :clap

No rose for you Bob as you'd tell me where to stick it :beerjug:
God speed big fella :thumb2

p.s Mutley's a w4nker
by special request :spank

edit found it http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=236805 and he was on standby for any of the Calum's roaders

Very sorry and condolences to his family, I never met Bob but I was one of the people he helped with advise when I was passing through France one winter.
I knew of his illness and we were in regular contact, I would count him as a friend.
He was a courageous man and talked easily about his illness and even cracked jokes.
We are really sorry about his passing and again deepest condolences to his family.

Terrible news :(

I had the pleasure of speaking to Bob many times on the phone, he certainly lead a colourful life and called a spade a spade.

RIP Bob

I read Pat's ride report yesterday mentioning Shenzi, and today I hear that he's gone. The world is a poorer place - condolences to his family and his friends.

I never met Bob but spoke to him a number of times of the phone and was due to ride with him in the Gorge Du Tarn in 2008 until a last minute change of plan scuppered it.

He was a great source of info and sounded like a top bloke.

RIP fella.

RIP, Shenzi..................another great GS'er, sadly departed - but fought his battle with courage and strength

I had a long-standing offer to visit Bob from back in 2004, if I was ever in his neck of the woods.

I wish now that I'd gone out of my way to make that visit.

My deepest and sincerest condolences to his family.

We toured the south of France 2 or 3 years ago and Shenzi sent me loads of info of places to go, roads to ride - spoke to him a few times and he was really helpful. He gave us an open invite to look him up when we on our tour but sadly due to me writing his phone number down incorrectly I was unable to call and meet up.

RIP Bob.

Spoke with him many times on the phone, last week being the most recent...he knew the end was close but was still talking bikes and bollocks,

Must the most interesting fella I've never met in person and like so many on here, had the open invite....just never got round to making down there.

He was pragmatic and was happy to have managed 10 years since first diagnosis.....good on ya Bob...:thumb2

A sad day...

That is very sad news.

I had never met the fellow but had exchanged several PM's all about France, a country he clearly loved.

Always very generous sharing his advice and offering help around his region, along with good hints-and-tips on hotels from his travels around. I, like many others, had an open invite to get together with him any time I was passing; which I think sums the chap up very well.

Heartfelt condolences to his family.

Richard

I'm shocked. Very sad news. I met Bob this time last year on our trip to the area. An incredibly kind man who took the time to show me some places I hadn't visited before and point me to more than a few others.

RIP

Only met Shenzi the once purely by accident in HG a good few years ago... he was quick to offer his place to stop off and any help should I be in the area... larger than life character, as said above.. spade is a spade..

Farewell Shenzi...
