She's giving me bad vibrations

Has anyone on here had this problem before and how did they get over it?

When riding along the road after 60mph the bike starts to vibrate really bad for 2 or 3 seconds then stops for same amount of time and repeats the whole time travelling over 60! whats that all about?

I bought the 690 Enduro 3 months ago to get ready for a siberia trip and i dont think i could handle the vibs for 12k miles!
Its a very low mileage 2008 model if that makes any difference?

any thoughts please?

Fill the handlebars with silcon and check your wheels are not out of balance, particularly if you have rim locks fitted.

Also check all engine and rear subframe bolts

Maybe just a coincidence but,
i had the same problem with a Honda C90.
Get it up to 'cruising speed' and it felt like a washing machine on spin cycle.
Changed the front sprocket (to the standard one) and it just went away completely.
Perhaps a combination of vibes and resonant harmonics?
... or i could be talking complete bollox.

Ha ha I would have done the trip on my se Ash but the other 2 decided we should all have the same bikes! Now i'm not sure bout the orange thing but hopefully will get it all sorted before June! Going to try Tim's suggestions in the morning!

They are a good bike for the job JohnnyBoxer,we did think about using XChallenges they did Walter proud on his siberia trips!

Hiya Marc, surprised you can type after your fright the other day!
Im pretty sure the bike is all standard, its only done 2k miles so i wouldnt have thought he'd have changed the sprockets! I will check that as well though and let you know if you were talking bollox tomorrow!

Only on the boring bits Ash, when we get nearer home I suppose!

Thank you all for your replies.

Turned out you were spot on Tim, funny though as the tyres were fitted by a tyre company!

Any how, I couldn't get balancing weights from anywhere on a Sunday so got some strips of lead from the back of the van and wrapped them round the top of the spokes until i got the weight and position right.

Once the weight was correct i marked positions took the strips off and melted them in one of the Mrs yorkshire pud trays so I would have one tidy little weight.

After forming the lead to match the shape of the rim i fixed the lead with 3m sticky pads and went for a spin.

60mph no vibes, 70mph no vibes, 80 no vibes and 90 no vibes! Result!!!

Very surprised that the Balancing would make it pulse like that but there you go, learn something new every day (the day you don't learn anything it wasn't worth getting out of bed!)

4 oz of lead was needed to balance out the rim lock, So must get some proper weights in the week and will probably do back wheel as well.

Feeling a lot happier about the orange thing now, so when the SE is gone I will be up to Rallyraid to buy all the adventure kit for it!

Great stuff Beamer, they're great bikes. John's kits are excellent, you won't regret getting one of those. I've ridden the 690's in standard form and with John's kits attached.

You will be amazed how nice they are to ride, even on motorways with his front fairing. The front fairing also had a slight design change some time back and curves at the top for better airflow.

Good man, you got the extra capacity fuel tanks aswell?

Also, the rear fuel cap upgrade is definitely worth doing. The ones in Morocco we used last Nov. with the standard one got really full of sand.

..oh, and before you forget, once the kit is fitted.....
