When I start the bike from cold I'm getting a squeal from the alternator belt. I plan to tackle this sometime over the weekend by popping of the plastic cover and adjusting the belt tension.

However this is a BMW and things never seem simple, so to save me some time....does anyone know if they've put a belt tension adjuster on the 1200?

Thanks :thumb2

looked in my reprom 2006, and it doesn't mention anything about a tensioner, just the generator/crankshaft belt pulleys, and can't see one in any of the diagrams.
They are supposed to be changed every 36,000 miles, are you any where close to that

No just over halfway, its not long had its 18k service. I'd kind of expected that this wouldn't be straightforwatds, the tensioner must have been part of the weight saving I suppose. I'll pop the cover off anyway just in case something else is amiss.

:thumb Thanks for replying.:thumb

It's a stretch belt. There is no tensioner, nor has there ever been one 1100-1200.
I have never heard a 1200 poly belt squel. Are you shure its the belt ????

The 1100 and 1150 had tensioners, the 1200 doesn't.

When you mean tensioner i think of a car type with a little wheel on it,or like Ducati cam belt tensioners.
BMW don't use this system, you can adjust the belt tension on 1100-1150 by just moving the alternator away from the crank. The 1200 is fixed.
