SHETLAND

I agree, it'll be my 4th or 5th trip, I love the place.

When you're going past Voe go and see 'Guido the Belgian' and see how he's getting on with his Shetland boat......He lives in the floating 'tin shed' and he's building his boat in there......!

He should be well on with it by now and he's good to talk to.

FP.

Not to bothered to what the weathers like on the island coz as we know it can change in the blink of an eye,

Its the 520 mile commute to the ferry in Aberdeen,I don't really want to do that in the piss pouring rain:eek:

Thanks for the invitation! I'm aiming at Unst on Sunday night, so whether I stay around and join you depends on the weather and whether I slept OK on the boat!

I always sleep well on the boat, it's like being at work. Only time I wake is if the engines stop.

ZMCC Sunday Run 2pm

If any of you are around tomorrow we'll be meeting at the Lerwick pier, 2pm as usual.
There's a choice of teas and runs so we can have a weather check and see if we land lucky. See you there - all welcome !! :thumb2

Sorry not to have met up with you guys yesterday, but I took advantage of the good weather to head north to Saxa Vord. Great run, if a bit breezy. The first time I was on the Unst ferry, I saw a bike go over, which always makes me nervous of the wee boats. No problems yesterday, though. There's a light dusting of snow up by the dome this morning, so taking a trip up thlere can wait until later!

Wind fairly picked up this pm, worst will be between 1800 and 2200 then a better day tomorrow. Bluebird brought this back with him.;)

Faroes

Drove back to Lerwick after work and at around 18.00 watched a ferry boat docking on the north link terminal, there was around 30 bikes waiting in the car park so went down to have a look and they were from the Faroe islands on a day out on Shetland!

Dont suppose I will ever see a Faroes plate again, got some pics and wil post them later.

Hello chaps. I am thinking of traveling to the Shetlands at the begining of June. I am just after some ideas of what to do once there? Are there many camp sites around or do I need to be looking for accom? Any help appreciated.

I wouldn't even think of camping.... If it gets windy it gets very very windy.

For cheap option bod or I would do what we did which was a rent lodge on Mainland then days out from there. The people we hired from allowed us to keep bikes in garage which was good.

Love Shetland, our last visit on bikes

Campsites

This link has the main campsites in Shetland I'm sure there will be other suggestions.

And this from von K in an earlier thread

The Breiwick site is good Christina will feed you well in the restaurant/cafe and they now have the option of renting Wigwams if the weather turns or as a complete alternative to camping if you contact them.
Clickimin is urban camping and close to the Leisure centre and all.

The Camping Bods vary, some are great but some are literally stone tents and decidedly unattractive, depends what you're looking for.

Sail Loft, Skeld and Betty Moats are good whilst others have been recently renovated but check what is there before you book there are some to avoid.

Maybe see you soon - Cheers :beerjug:

Camping is a good option, Wigwams at Breiwick is an even better one.
June will be busy, it's the Classic car and Bike show, and the Simmer Dim Bikers Rally. You will be lucky to get a cabin on the North boat unless you have booked. Give us all a shout when you arrive. We will point you to the best places.:beerjug:
