SHETLAND

Drove back to Lerwick after work and at around 18.00 watched a ferry boat docking on the north link terminal, there was around 30 bikes waiting in the car park so went down to have a look and they were from the Faroe islands on a day out on Shetland!

Dont suppose I will ever see a Faroes plate again, got some pics and wil post them later.

Norrona used to call twice a week up till 2007. We came back on the bike from France via Germany and Denmark to Hansholm, joined her for the last trip via Bergen
to Lerwick. Good ship.

Shetland Bike Runs

A couple of pictures from last Sunday when I took a run out to the Westside to Sandness and Skeld and then yesterday to Sumburgh Lighthouse and Hotel
They were ready for us this time :D

Good turnout with everyone recovered from -6 degrees at the Buzzards or 6am sessions at the folk festival last weekend.

Also my first run out with the new (to me) Verns thanks to niko :thumb2

I passed all the Faroese bikes at Holmsgarth but was working all day, a few local guys did meet up for the day though. Tried to get a booking to anywhere East a few weeks ago on that trip to go and see my daughter in Turku, Finland with the aim of sticking to 60 North but it was very expensive, cruise only and I didn't have time for the return leg without a direct ferry.
Tough when you know Shetland contributed £4.5 million to the Narrona and they can't be bothered stopping here any more !!

Keep passing mysterious GSs on the road - there should be another run next Sunday - all welcome ! :beerjug:

Well, I am home after 1411 miles to, round and back from Shetland. A little breezy at times, but generally a brilliant week and I managed to stay dry most of the time. I'll do a ride report and some more pictures later in the week.

No, being on my own, and it beeing a bit breezy, I decided that I'd stick with tarmac and only take the bike as far as the dome. The Muckle Flugga photo was taken whilst walking at Hermaness.

Are you on the Solitare or the support vessel?, theres also a repair job going on to the north of the gas plant resinking a plastic pipe that floated to the surface,a little boat called the Constructor was on there.

If you know the weather up there you will know what they are getting now is good:Motomartin

fecking servos

Does anyone know if there is a place on shetland that makes up brake line braided hoses or ordinary steel/copper lines ?

My servos have locked down into "* residual" mode and Its time I sorted it out with a bypass of the abs pump, I need a line about 150mm long for the rear and a connector to join 2 banjo bolts or a new line for the front from master cylinder to bottom yoke.

Any help greatly appriciated.

* fcuk all brakes.

braided hose

i got all the bits from m/w and made up me own line , don't know anyone in shetland that sells the bits .
if ya get the parts i'll give ya a hand .

I have sorted it for now, many thanks to all those that have offerd help and advice, much appricated:thumb2

I have posted this in the 1200 section as well,

So I start looking at the pipe work to assess wahts needed to bypass abs pump, fairly straight forward, just remove loop to abs pump on front by connecting the 2 braided lines togther where it splits to go to pump just below top yoke, you can use either of the exsisting fittings to do this,

For the rear you can either use the exsisting pipe that goes from pump to rear caliper, just got to cut and shape to length and flare the end or get a replacement pipe.

As I was looking at this I noticed the brake light permanantly on,Now the first thing I checked was if the micro switchs were not being operated by the hand guard or shit or stones in the rear, they appeared to be ok not jammed and "clicking" nicely.

So pulled cover of the rear and thats clean as the day it come out of factory despite not washing bike for at least 2 years and riding in all weather, gave it a squirt of wd40 and brake light still on,

moved to front and dismantle hand guard and mirror to get switch out, switch appears to operate ok,turn on ignition and operate switch quickly and suddenly servos start whirring!!!

take switch of and look at where button goes in and you can see oily reisdue in there wipe it off and operate again and more shit comes out,get the wd40 and give it a good blast until it is clear and everythings ok.:JB

I give all my levers a squirt of oil regularly and over the years it must have got into switch and gummed up the contacts, switch appears to operate but no conductivity,I will check with a meter next time I get a problem:blast

In hindsight a lot of the intermittant problems that I have had with the servos sticking on must have come fro this switch being contaminated, a lesson learnt and a bit more patience instead of being quick to condem is what I will take away from this little saga.

4 more sleeps till the simmer dim :beerjug::beer::jager:friday:barf:thumb

Nice to meet you yesterday mate:thumb2, will call in when I'm up that way,had a great run up to Ronan's hill after the tea at Ollaberry, found a pipeline track on the right as you go up, brilliant but rocky track, rode down it for 2 miles but turned back as I had 20miles of fuel left and common sense got the better of me, you really don't want to be up there on yr own in such a remote location so turned back, but will go back soon and ride it till the end.

Its a pipeline track to a reservoir I reckon.:nenau

track

that leads to roer water , did it on mine a couple of years ago .i never got to the end either , started thinkin (bad idea ) , what happens if i fall off and hurt meself , nobody knows i'm up here . when i looked at a map later i realised i'd nearly got to the end of the track .
give me a shout if ya passin , always got the kettle on .
cheers , jody .:thumb
