Shift assist problem

Mine is shite. It feels as though I have to force it into gear on up changes and stamp on the lever for down changes. Not smooth at all.
It feels like there's more resistance when changing gear than when using the clutch. I don't bother with it anymore.

Snap, to the point it's worn the gear shift pad on my boots! On holiday next week so I'm going to try the dealers demo bike for comparison. They already gave it the OK on the 600 mile service but 4K later it's just no better, waste of money as it stands.

Its taken me a long while to get the feel of mine. 1-2 and 2 -1 forget it although it can be done. The bike has to be accelerating fairly hard on the upshift and the pedal has to be punched quickly. A slight roll off of the throttle can smooth it. On the downshift it is better under quite rapid deceleration and the pedal again has to be punched with the foot.

I to found the rs qs much better than on my gs when I had it out, techy suggested it may be how the engine sits in the frame.....
Really

I do worry about these so called techy guys some times

I had a quick shifter, up only on my K1300S and the same on my 1199 Panigale, I have also tried the new up and down quick shifter on the Panigale 1299 and multistrada DVT all smooth seamless and well worth the money. Before I bought my 2016 GSA the bike I test rode had GSAP fitted and I would describe it as agricultural.

If I'd paid extra for the GSAP I could have had the new GSA much earlier, but I was not prepared to pay for something I felt was work in progress, this thread supports my decision.

GSAP on the Xr is simply fabulous whereas on my GSA it was less so and if i was going back to GS i would not bother

Sounds like BMW need to sort this !! I had a quick shifter on my K1300S in 2009 and it was pretty smooth but I've just fitted the Yamaha OE shifter to my MT10 and it is unbelievably smooth. It isn't designed to work on downshifts but upshifts are like a hot knife through butter !
I read somewhere recently that quick shifters aren't meant to be used between 1-2 but only for 2-6.

I had my GSA in for service last week. As a loaner I was given a R1200rs.

Although the RS was not for me, I was shocked at how much better the quick shifter was on this bike.

The feel of it and the gear lever was like chalk and cheese compared to my GSA.

I was guessing that the RS has a very different gear box as it felt quite different in 1st as well ie when in 1st if you press the lever down - on the GSA it feel rock solid (bottom of the box) on the RS it was like there was a rubber stopper that in 1st if you pressed down was up against.

Would be interested to know if anyone knows the differences in gearbox between a GSA no a RS as like I said they felt completely different when paired with GSAP.

I had an RS with assit pro loaner whilst mine was in for service and it it's clutch less gear shifts were a dream, having said that so was the engine and transmission, so much smoother than my GS??

Isn't it just :bounce1

Really ? Any reason given ?
On the XR I only use the clutch for taking off & coming to a stop and have never had a problem going up or down
And the more stick you give the bike the better / easier it is. IMHO :rob

My GSA is pretty smooth both up and down, but it did feel very agricultural after my XR but I only have the one bike and it's great wouldn't be without it
