Hi Folks,
I've just returned from a five day jaunt around the west coast of Scotland,it was fantastic the roads and countryside are just stunning.
One thing that did concern me however, was the way that my bike 1150gsa pitched and rolled on occasions and generally wallowed to the extent that Joanne actually felt travel sick on a couple of occasions.
Suspension was wound up to the max and combined weight with Joanne and luggage was 9st pillion and around 5st luggage.
The bike has done 24000mls on origional shocks,is it time for new shocks? and are Ohlins worth the investment?

Steve

you could save a whole wad of cash and simply have your original shocks regassed. will cost around £75 - is a 'once only' jobbie - thereafter the shocks can be rebuilt by anyone. (will have a valve braised on as part of the £75) Its been said on here that the guys who regas the shocks have tested the springs and found them to be well within spec.. what 'goes' is internal to the shock.

other options are either Ohlins or WP if money is no option. but in both cases you get what you're given and will have to spend some time 'setting them up'

I went for a full set of Wilbers which were built specifically to suit ME. (cost around 30% less than the others) fitted in an hour and I've not had to touch them since. have kept the originals as 'spares' and will at some point have them rebuilt too.

I`ll push the Hyperpro option as they are great value and built to spec:thumb

Made a huge difference to both my 1100 and 1200.

I can rebuild and service standard shocks - but a bit more than £75. More like £95 for a re-gas and seal and a years guarentee. Unless you need a new damper rod made which will mean a bit more. If the original rod is reused and it's slightly worn the shocks will lose pressure over a period of time and you'll be back to square one.

Interesting Stepetoe. Yet another string to your bow!
What's typical turnaround time to re-furb a standard rear shock?
