Shoei J Cruise 3? Thoughts?

Rubbish! - It isnt. Its presses on ears and forehead in particular. A nasty cheap helmet.
Well I’ve got the Shark OXO and RS Jet Carbon and both fit perfectly. Each to their own …..all heads are different , strangely enough 🤔

It’s a bit daft to call a helmet cheap because you bought the wrong size or your head is the wrong shape for a Shark shell .
Any helmet will produce pressure points if it doesn’t fit you , regardless of the cost 🤦‍♂️

Oh dear. Compared to the neotec 3 or the j cruise, the shark is cheap. It is also poor quality compared to the shoei IMO

I would rather be a bit too warm and have the security of a full face helmet at all times. Helmets like the Neotec are fine for paying for petrol when they want to see your face, but less good for riding in. Flip over helmets are as bad as open face from a safety perspective.

Having crashed in an open face helmet in my youth and slid down the road, skinning my face, I'll stick to full face. Gravel rash on the face bloody hurts.

Oh dear, indeed .
Yes the Shark, is cheap (er) . One of the reasons I bought it . Used my OXO on 2500 mile trip to Portugal last year and it was fabulous. Yes, the Neotec 3 is plusher but it’s not worth over twice the money and it’s too hot in summer . That’s why I use Neotec in cooler months and OXO in summer .
The latter is so much nicer to wear fully open , which I did for 90% of the trip .

The OP wanted ideas and I’ve had both ADV350 and X-ADV and much prefer an open face / jet/ flip over .

Other opinions are available, like the post above this one 😜

I really like the Nolan N40 and on my third. Light and airy and doesn't give me a headache that I suffered with other more expensive items. No, not the same build quality but nothing has fell off and the optics on Nolan helmets are spot on and important for me as a Glasses wearer (y)

Had a look at that recently. I almost snapped that piece of plastic in half. It’s not reinforced and will be 0 protection. And is fcking huge even in size S.
The only helmet at the moment with a flip chin bar in carbon fibre, is the LS2 Advant x carbon

IMO The extra cost of the Shoei depends on your usage of the helmet, assuming that it’s comfortable in the first place.

I have a J Cruise and the quality and comfort (for me) of it means that I have used it for many years and miles. The main thing I like about it is the visor - I have only changed it once, they keep clear vision and are excellent in the rain.

So, I believe that, if you are the type of person who keeps a helmet for a long time and use it a lot, then it’s worth paying the extra.

If you use a helmet a lot, according to the "experts" 5 years is the time you should be looking to replace. I can't understand how the J Cruise 3 is nearly the same price as the Neotec 3, yet your not getting the chin bar :)

After a significant 'off' 3 1/2 years ago, I'm possibly about ready to step back onto a bike.

My Shoei flip front lid saved my life, still ended up with a significant brain bleed though, so that's not viable to ever see my head again, certainly not on the move.

I've a hankering for a J Cruise 3, but by God they're expensive nowadays.. I suppose you get what you pay for?

I'll likely be going for a Honda ADV350 scooter to get back on the road, other significant injuries mean my GSA is likely too heavy for me.

So, people's thoughts good and bad re the J Cruise 3?

Roger.
Hi Roger,

I’m sorry to hear about your “off,” but I’m very glad you’re here to tell the story. It’s also reassuring to hear that your SHOEI Neotec did exactly what it was designed to do in such unfortunate circumstances.

The SHOEI J-Cruise 3 is proving to be a very popular helmet and has actually recently received a price reduction over the past few weeks. In essence, it’s very similar to the Neotec 3, just without the chin bar. It is also compatible with our PFS (Personal Fitting System), allowing the helmet to be tailored specifically to your head shape for improved comfort and stability.

The J-Cruise range features SHOEI’s AIM (Advanced Integrated Matrix) shell for excellent impact absorption, along with a multi-density EPS liner. As an open-face helmet, it offers outstanding protection within its category, although naturally it cannot provide the same facial coverage as a full-face or flip-front design.

If quietness is a priority for you, I would still recommend considering the Neotec 3, as it remains one of SHOEI’s quietest and most popular helmets available.

If you would like any further information, please feel free to visit me at the SHOEI Gallery Birmingham, where I would be more than happy to help. You’re also welcome to try our PFS service on a helmet of your choice so you can experience the difference between a standard fit and a tailored fit firsthand.

Wishing you all the best with getting back out on the road, and the Honda ADV350 sounds like a fantastic choice for easing yourself back into riding while keeping things comfortable and manageable.

Best regards,

Ben

Hi Casbar,

Yes we recommend 5 years is the time to change, or when it gets to the 12 year mark of the manufacturers date. But this topic has always been open for debate.

The SHOEI J-Cruise 3 is essentially a Neotec 3 without the chin bar. In terms of pricing, a plain J-Cruise 3 comes in at around £499, whereas a plain Neotec 3 is approximately £599.

Some may say that £100 for a chin bar seems expensive, but it’s important to remember the level of engineering, development, and R&D that goes into every SHOEI helmet long before it even reaches the ECE 22.06 homologation tests.

From shell construction and aerodynamics to noise reduction, ventilation, and safety performance, a tremendous amount of work goes into ensuring each helmet meets SHOEI’s standards for comfort and protection.

Best regards,

Ben
