Shoei Neotec 3 helmet Review

Ha! I wear my Davida matt black piss pot when I need ventilation.
I more often than not will wear an open face lid so long as no chance of rain, I got myself a Shoei JO like the one Arsey has/had.
I keep telling myself I should wear a full face or flip front more often because of a serious RTA I had 30 odd years ago. The front of my BMW system helmet was well mashed up but it saved my god like good looks.shoei JO.jpg

Great helmets.
Still have that one and keep it under scoot seat.
Got a newer one to use on Wing etc.

Are you saying the Neotec 1 is better then?
I reckon the Multi tec was a better built lid than my present Neotec 2.
The chin bar would close with a solid action that would ring inside the helmet.
The Neotec 2 can take 2 or 3 hard pulls before it locks, and then its so vague I'll pull upwards to make sure.
Visor action a bit sloppy, and won't open that little bit like the Multi would.

Other than that its a nice helmet in cool graphics, and a neat quick release.

Happy with the show price I paid in 2019, but £650 ... never worth that!

Fan of the original multitec, none of the new ones fitted me as well as the multitec

Yes, I took my Neotec II which is 6 weeks old back to the shop today..I’d done a 1200 mile tour of Scotland in the first two weeks of owning it and had a tiny bit of water ingress, which I put down to maybe having cracked the visor open at a junction. 4 weeks later and it leaked like a sieve at the next use in a downpour. great old boy in there took a few bits off and said the bolts had loosened which was why I’d noticed a deterioration in such a short space of time. He said the multi tec had fewer issues but the Neotec still had very few. Said it was the first one they’d had returned for water getting in. I’ve fitted plenty of pin locks without issue over the years and don’t ride with the visor up but surely a helmet at that price point shouldn’t start to shed bolts?! They took a few pictures and emailed Shoei so I’ll see what they say…

Had a Multitech for 8 years bought at the end of the run and apart from having to replace 3 top vents it was a great lid. Sadly its Multi tech replacement at £400 was beyond my finances so end up buying a heavily discounted GT Air. Would like another Shoei Flip front but £650 is not good value back to Nolan next time (which is not too far off).

You can still (if you can find in stock) buy a neotec 2, at a heavily discounted price. Worth looking around.

I wonder how bad the Netotech II actually is? I've seen more positive reviews than negative and it seems very popular amongst the bloodbike community. I think I'd trust their feedback given the hours in the saddle in all weathers they do. Like all these things, you hear more bad than good on the 'net and people rarely praise things but use forums to have a good old moan.

Shoei has always struck me as a company who listens to customers and who makes very high quality lids. The competition presently seems to be the Schuberth C4 and C5 and I've read more gripes about those lids than the Neotech when it comes to leaks and other issues. You pays your money...

Bit of an overkill lid for riding your pushbike ( pictured) isn’t it 🤣

HJC!!

Give the HJC RPHA 90S a look.
I know there's a new one out (RPHA 91) but I have no experience of it.

The RPHA range of helmets from HJC are top class.

Good shout. Heard good things about the RPHA, but can also get a great discount presently on the Neotech 2 so it'll depend on fit.

I have ridden 1000s of miles blood biking with my Neotec 2 and have never had any issues at all. I own two, one for blood biking and one for leisure. But mine were bought when they first came out, so not sure if something has happened with manufacture of the helmet since then. I used to have a Schuberth c3 Pro before that for blood biking, leaked all the time :)

I’m currently using a RPHA 70, it’s extremely comfortable and quiet, but the quality isn’t quite up to Shoei standards,

It’s starting to show signs of wear quite quickly, whereas my last couple of Shoei’s have lasted 5 or 6 years

need to get wifey a new lid soon so might look at changing mine too, probably GT-Air 3 or Neotec 3

Would be good if I was in the market right now. The GT Air still has another couple of years in it yet, the current intent is to go for the Nolan N70 2X a modular type. Was in J&S Northwich a few weeks back and they had lots of Neotech 2's on offer, probably gone by now or down to XS only.

My Shoei Neotech 2 is easily the best helmet I have ever owned for a perfect fit and plush comfort, very low noise, great visor and decent integrated comms,

My Schuberth C4 is the easily the most hateful pile of dogshit I have ever owned.

Don't throw away old helmets offer them to your local Fire Brigade or St John's Ambulance for training. Gives your old helmet a chance to save another biker's life.

Well, I took the plunge yesterday and bought a neotech 2 which was on offer. I looked at options from Shark, HJC and Schuberth. The C4 has come in for a lot of stick and I couldn't see any C4 pros on the shelf, so ended up comparing the neotech 2 with the Shark evolution and HJC RPHA 91. Preferred the fit and quality of the shoei so bought that. I found the locking mechanism very positive and very smooth and easy to open, the visor seals down perfectly so perhaps some of the comments above were down to a one off issue? There was a choice of the sena SL2 integrated system or Cado Sho-01 and I ended up with the Cardo as these have received very positive reviews. Although it was designed for a better fit on the Neotech 1 without the sena pockets, I was told it ought to still fit neatly on the neotech 2. I'll be fitting the Interphone 16 unit on my full face lid.
