Should I change the oil and filter?

I've done the gearbox and FD oils, feel happier now:D

I assume a little bit of crud stuck to the sump bolt magnets is normal? it was only a little.

Engine filter kit has arrived but the oil is still in the post, job for tomorrow.

No, just like cutting paste.

Excellent :thumb2

I change my gearbox / FD oil every engine oil change (3000 miles in my case). There's not much in there and It works hard - for the minimal cost it's good peace of mind.

A little bit of pasty grey crud on the plug is normal :thumb

I used just under 1 litre for both.

Would you suggest adding more by using the sidestand?

Nope - I just use the centre stand as per normal. I'd imagine if you overfilled you'd just end up with it coming out of the breathers. I think the quoted capacities add up to just over a litre for both but of you drained them cold there all probably be a bit of the old stuff still hanging around.

No drained when hot but not on flat ground, slight incline.

All done, I was just about to drop the oil and the delivery guy arrived with my new oil from Amazon:clap

All tested, no leaks, happy happy.

Got some Muck Off too to complete the recommissioning:D

Cool :thumb

Just don't let the Muck Off sit on there too long - I've read about it attacking the BMW powdercoat.

Nah, I last cleaned my GS in April 2009 before a trip to the Picos and Portugal.

Muc Off won't get near the finish, I'm just using it to soften the crust :aidan
