Should I ditch my Nav V? What’s a replacement that fits into a Touratech locking mount?

My Nav V which is now 13 years old started playing up a couple of weeks ago, screen freeze.
I'd like something as a back up but it has to fit into my Touratech locking mount.
I tried a connected rode thing at my local BMW dealer but the spares rep. couldn't get it to fit, he reckoned it was too big by a mm or so.
I've avoided Nav VI due to tye infamous ghosting issues but would like something that is a direct replacement for my Nav V.
I don't have a Wonder Wheel so compatibility with that isn't important.

a. Dremel the Ttech mount so it matches the BMW footprint then you can use whatever fits in the Connected Ride adapter

Thanks. Unfortunately I have neither a Dremel nor the capability of using one without beggarung things up and I don't want to buy something that 'might' fit.
I suspect I might have to either ditch the TTech locking cradle which I would rather not or maybe find a way of fitting a powered mount somewhere that I could attach a spare phone to, just in case.

From time to time, third generation Nav VI devices come up for sale on the forum. These do not ghost. I assume that a Nav VI fits into the locking mount.

The prices are pretty competitive, not least as the value of many standalone GPS devices have fallen, due to:

A. Nav V and earlier devices becoming long in the tooth.

B. Bad press over the first and second generation Nav VI devices.

C. The rise in popularity of the phone and / or phone mirroring devices, as navigation tools.

PS I have never been convinced of the need for locking GPS mounts. But that’s a different matter.

A 3rd generation Nav VI sounds like a viable option but I'm also wondering if any of the modern Android Auto jobbies might click straight in.
I'm intrigued, why no need for a locking mount, I thought you were a big advocate of locks, locks and more locks?

For me, I've never found it a faff to unclip my Zumo and either stick it in my pocket or the topbox. If I am stopping for a coffee/lunch I sometimes fiddle with the satnav to add a fuel stop, check distance left and amend the route if the timescale has changed due to traffic, road works etc. I am not doing that if the nav is left on the bike.

I’m a big believer in securing motorcycles and, indeed, the garage and front door.

I cannot recall ever reading or hearing about a sat nav device being stolen from a bike and only once seen a device jump off its mount. That was a Garmin Quest many years ago.

What I have seen is bikermates with armoured security for their GPS device, leave their expensive helmet (without which they can’t ride) hanging on their bike mirror whilst they linger in a cafe or go to pay for fuel. That they don’t lock their bike up “As nothing can happen here” is another matter entirely.

Given that the Nav5 and Nav 6 fit into the same cradle, that means so will the android units.
i would get an android unit, cheaper and do more.

I have an android unit that came straight out of the box and clicked into the cradle.
I've kept my Nav6 as a backup but not used it since.

As per Wapping's question please can I ask what Android unit you have and does it work with a TT lock? As mentioned above the Connected ride cradle sits nicely in the standard Sat Nav mount but not with a TT lock.

As per Wapping's question please can I ask what Android unit you have and does it work with a TT lock? As mentioned above the Connected ride cradle sits nicely in the standard Sat Nav mount but not with a TT lock.

Mine is the Carpuride 702BS Pro which fits on my nav6 cradle and also has use of the wonderwheel and shows bike info

I don't have any experience with the Touratech mount though, so cant say for sure about fitment.

All i can say is my Nav6 and the Carpuride are interchangeable without adjusting anything at all which is great
I've been going out with the Carpuride on the bike and the Nav6 in a pannier as a back up.

That said, as time passes i am growing in confidence in the Carpuride, its been soaked in wet weather and rattled along a few rough mountain passes, so far it seems great.

Thank you. Sadly the Carpuride won't fit in the TT lock so the hunt continues. Sort of. As noted above I've accepted that as I want to keep the TT lock it's going to have to be a 3rd Gen. Nav VI.
