Should I Worry

It's a 10 minute job to whip the rocker cover off and replace it. I think I'd be having a look myself as the whole thing sounds quite bizarre to me.......

And while you're looking take a photo and post it here for us to look at. Sounds very strange, comparing a photo against the parts diagram posted earlier could give a clue as to what's going on. If it was my bike I would want it sorted.

Before starting this post I had gone onto the BMW UK website and left a message outlining the situation. As I'd had no reply I assumed my message had got lost in the ether. I contacted the guys who identified the problem with the intention of getting a diagram showing the missing bolt (for this post) only to be advised that they had been contacted that day by BMW UK. So some investigation is going on. I will keep you posted

If the thread is genuinely missing, its a manufacturing and susiquently a QA/QC failure. Even with the bike being out of warranty I'd think BMW will want to sort it out.
Good luck.

Once again thanks for your views and advice on this problem. My local dealer, Linds, have taken my case up with BMW UK and they have agreed to pay for the work to take place. Today a new cylinder was fitted.

Good result!

Name and shame the dealer as their response is unreasonable and rather stupid.

Tell them that vehicle manufacturers don't put nuts and bolts on a bike for the fun of it. They are all there for good reason.

If it is missing, tell them to fix it.

Simples.

Not sure about that. I've yet to take a bike or car to bits, re-assemble and not have a washer or three left over. Yet they always work OK.

Thats a pretty dumb statement. You can take lots of things off and it will work OK. The beak for instance. Pillion seat - whats that for if you never carry a passenger?

:blast

Since you say there's a bolt missing but can't be specific its difficult to advise other than take it back to your dealer or someone that knows what they're talking about.
