When I fire the bike up in the morning and I left her on the side stand I get a lot of blue smoke coming out of the left exhaust. (a school kid about 8 years old, stopped, looked at my and then reprimanded me for "polluting". I had no comeback.)

Anything I can do to mitigate this other than leaving her on the middle stand?

Always switch the fuel of at night? That kid looked mean and I think he meant it.

Switch your fuel off when the engines not running and then enrole in some assertiveness lessons at night school, bullied by an 8yo:blast

Just tell him that the design is 90 years old and it would cost more materials and energy and pollution to recycle into a new one than to keep riding and having the occasional asthmatic moment! OR Tell HIm it's a biodiesel ! :aidan

On a serious note, Have you too much oil in there

Are you parking at an angle on a slope?

They all do it to some extent but you can minimise it dramatically by reducing lean and maybe switching the fuel off as you ride half a mile from home then if the float seal rubber is a wee bit dozed and it's weeping fuel it won't be washing the bore if your unlucky enough to stop the engine with the Inlet slightly open

Ok, centre stand and fuel off....

Thanks guys. I have told my mum and she will talk to him. :thumb2

They all do that sir !!!!
It's the oil in the cylinder coming past the rings overnight, it's as miniscule amount but combined with Condensation of the cold exhaust don't half make a smoke screen :)

Always turn fuel off, or one day you will come back to an empty tank :augie damhik :D

I never bother with center stand, as it's easier for the buggers to fall over or roll forward off them, look at Geriatrics pics of his R100RS, the brick is there for a reason :D :rob
Also a small push from the side can see the bike over :(

Good - I am glad... however it did look like the A Team was about to arrive in a helicopter ... the smoke wall travelled down the road and people were covering their mouths... I was a little embarassed...

Yes, ALWAYS turn your fuel taps off.

But leaving them on has nothing whatsoever to do with your smoke. The petrol will overflow out of the carb onto the floor, not into the engine.

The smoke is more likely worn valve guides or rings.

Agreed

BUT it is cold these days - (on start up) - are you sure that it is smoke?

no wonder my ST didn't start after 5 days standing with the fuel tap on...now managed to drain the battery also (trying to fire her up) :blast

A firm belt round the lug 'ole in a backhanded cuffing motion will sort out the 8 year old.

Don't know what's causing the smoke.
