Hi folks.. Would it be a big job to rewire the side stand switch to not cut off the engine(1150gs).. I had it like this when I first bought the bike but after a problem with something else the shop doing the work rewired it to cut out when stand went down. Bit of a pain and heavy on the starter motor..

The side stand switch is a safety device to stop you riding off with the stand down. Hence it will cut the engine when in gear and clutch out.

Normally with the bike in neutral and the side stand down, the engine will keep running.

The work round is for when the switch fails and you need to keep going.

You might want to check whether the shop did something with the sidestand switch, or with the other switch/circuit that means an 1150 only cuts the engine when in gear with the sidestand down (not sure if it uses the neutral switch or the gear indicator or what...) That's if you're trying to restore the original 1150 safety cutout, rather than leave yourself able to ride off with the sidestand down.

Its such a well known source of failure that I had mine removed 7 years ago. One less thing to go wrong and result in a non-runner.
