side stand issues

Since getting my G 310 GS in mid June this year I have found the side stand to be a bit 'awkward' to use, its sometimes too long to fully apply when the ground is uneven without feeling that the bike is no longer upright and unless the left side ground is at least level then its difficult to use the stand...

I read somewhere (maybe FB) that replacing with an adjustable one is an option but I wonder about the operation of the safety switch

Any thoughts or help please
