The side stand switch on my 2006 GS has failed. :(
Confident it would only be £20 to £30 at most, even at BMW prices to buy a new one, I phoned my local dealer North Oxford BMW to order a new one.

What a shock, the price is an outrageous £75.61 plus VAT!!!!

Needless to say I didn't order one. Has anyone else had their side stand switch fail? Are they repairable?

Apparently any goodwill claim on BMW (bike 5 months out of warranty) would only be looked upon favourably if failure of this part is a common occurrence.

Thanks.

Have you seen the Long Way Down DVD?

One of the bikes had a switch failure & it would cut out every time it was put into gear.

They made a phone call & were advised to cut the wires from the switch, join them together & tape them up.

Result. :thumb2

Btw, my window regulator went on my Renault Clio last week & it wouldn't wind up, it cost me £249 to replace it. I feel your pain.

Based on the HP2 but should be the same I guess.

Hard to search when not subscribed....it's worth the £12.

Cheers for that, always handy to have some knowledge of roadside fixes. :thumb2

Yes, you must subscribe, you must subscribe, you must...
My switch went just inside warranty, but it still took three workshop apppointments and three months to sort! maybe the latest cost is because you are having to pay for the fault-finding on my machine?
My understanding is that this has turned out to be a fairly ordinary sort of failure on the 12, and so a claim sent in by your "friendly dealer" is likely to be reasonably well received.
