Sidestand Switch Override

Hi,

I'm being greedy on the questions today (two posts on the trot ) but when you are a feck-whit like me then you need all the help you can get.

My new GSA turned up on Monday and the sidestand promptly gave way on the weld just below the connecting bracket to the frame ( I would attach a piccy if I could work out how to ), anyway to cut a long story short I have removed the section of the sidetsand below the weldded joint as there was a danger that the sidestand could rotate into the rear wheel, and now just have the sidetsand bracket in place (obviously minus the springs to keep the bracket in the up position), the problem is that before I can get to the dealer I want to make sure that the bracket does not move down to the vertical position and hence operate the sidestand kill switch in mid-ride.

Any ideas on how to overide the kill switch or indeed any other ideas to temporarily resolve the problem

This is one of a few niggles with a brand new bike .....but it is still a fecking great bike to ride

can you not wrap some electrical tape or something to stop the contact coming out

You say it's a "new 'bike"......BMW assist.......get 'em to pick it up.....

Switch

Sidestand Switch

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are 3 wires in the sidestand switch:

Brown
Red
White

Brown/White connected = sidestand up
Red/White connected = sidestand down

To fix, connect brown/white together.

Bike thinks Stand is up.

Thanks for the advice..... the obvious answer is to tape it up although I raised the question as I need to travel 80 miles to the dealer and with the rounded shape of the frame/bracket plus possible wet conditions, I didn't want to risk any electrical tape coming adrift, but will give it a go rather than cutting and joining the switch wiring on a 5 day old bike!

No, I think the "obvious answer" has already been supplied ... call BMW Assist and get them to transport it the 80 miles to the dealer.

Depending on your dealer you may find that they'll be a bit funny with any 'tinkering' you have done - however well intentioned.

My first Beemer so thought this would be a long shot but I will take your advice and give BMW Assist a call. I had little choice but to remove the broken section of the sidestand (with the dealer agreeing) as it was rotating into the rear wheel so the dealer cannot have a get-out on the basis of 'tinkering'.

The dealer I bought from is not the most local to me and hence is BMW Assist a 'full - no conditions' service, i.e. they will pick up the bike from my home and transport it to the dealer over 80 miles away rather than my local dealer which is 30 miles away.... or should I not really give a crap where it goes ao long as the problem is fixed by BMW
