My rear pre-load adjuster is stuck solid, I presume this might be a common fault, question is, is there a easy cure ?

Try this.

If....if the bikes not under any warranty note where the knob is indicating pre-load wise then carefully undo the screw that secures the knob to the pre-load adjuster shaft, gently prise the knob up and off (hopefully). You may by now have found the cause of said stuck control, stone wedged firmly in between valve body and knob (painful). If not proceed as below.

With the knob off thoroughly clean around top of body and liberally spray WD40 onto the shaft, now carefully use a pair of 'mole grips' to grip the shaft. Try not to damage the spline if you can help it! GENTLY ease the shaft back and forth a bit at a time (where was the knob indicating before you removed it).

Success in a packet not guaranteed every time but its worked in the past for me. After freeing off you must check for leakage around the shaft... this is the bug bear bit because if it is leaking the things b*ll*xed anyway....but at least you can move it now.

Good luck.
