I found the rear mount for the silencer destroyed again this week end:comfort.
The forward mount is missing (gone walkabout!), so I guess the extra stress put on the rear was just too much to cope with. On the spares list, it shows the rear mount as the rubber cone but the forward mount is a M8x35mm bolt. Is there any rubber bushing on the forward mount to kill the vibes? I can't see a part number on the list.

Hi John, so it's just bolted through the bracket and the frame? If so I may have a problem as I have a home made Y piece fitted that moves the silencer mount somewhat as I have a big gap on the forward mount (approx 8mm) that's why I thought there would be a rubber spacer of some sort.

I just changed my Y-pipe to a German make and noticed that the Silent-Block mount at the rear had de-coupled in about 2 weeks with the old Y!
The new Y-pipe is a really good fit and alignment.
Waiting for a new mount now:(

The rear, rubber mount, is only to damp vibes caused by the length of the can and the distance from the front mount

Cheers John. Mine is a standard pipe and the mounts are different.:tears
I, however, have a cunning plan...........

The front silencer bracket should be bolted to the INSIDE face of the subframe.

The outside face has a rib on it so the bracket will not sit square (see pic above). If you bolt the front bracket to the outside face it will pull the rear rubber mounting apart. The rear rubber mounting should be a nice fit with no outward pull - it can be done. I have also heard of the broken rubber mounting being glued back together but never had any luck myself.

Hope this helps.

I'm guessing that the Y piece is slightly out and is twisting the pipe mounts somewhat. I was told it was handmade locally. No matter I have two rubber mounts due to be delivered today and I will make a spacer for the forward of the two mounts as there is quite a gap (5-8mm!). Thanks for all the help espesh the pictures.:clap

Hi

My Keihin Y piece devours rubber mounts no matter what I do. Been running without one for two years now with no ill-effects.

It does last longer if I add some washers to increase the effective length. Ahem.

Replaced the rubber mount and packed out the forward mount with three washers. Lets see how long this works for? Thanks for the help. You wouldn't see this in the oilheads section.:clap
