Silver Side Panels

Hiya all. i thought i would share my little upgrade with you all.
Never really liked the Silver side panels on my TB GSA. what do you lot think?
Only cost £30 quid for a small roll of 3m carbon fibre wrap, i'm quite pleased with it, and very easy to do
Did fancy the idea of having them sprayed, this option was a lot cheaper, and if i get fed up with it, i can just peel it off

Nice job they do look better black I swapped my silver panels for black ones at PDI

Getting the carbon wrap in the recessed "GS" ..... logo was that done with a heat gun and gentle forming into shape?

No Jon. I just used a small sponge and pressed it into the "GS" logo.
Once it is stuck it stays stuck. I did think i would have to use a hair dryer, but when i tried it the sheet seemed to go soft and very maliable and went a funny shape. You can be fairly rough with it, you will have trouble rubbing the pattern off.

I think I just found a use for that surplus carbon sheet that swmbo has been trying to get me to throw away for the past 6 years

Any problems with getting the sheet to adhere around the curved edges and where the fixing tabs are??

Hi Sandman.
No it sticks very well around the curved edges. the tabs where the screws go are a bit tricky.
i used a modelling knife to trim it up, to be honest you don't have to be to critical, as when the seat and panels are replaced you will never see it.

Robbla, on a scale of 1 to ten how easy is this job? I really like what you have done but worry I would botch the job. I am great at most DIY and have built walls and done almost any house repair work BUT wallpapering aint my bag! The wife,s good at that tho' maybe I should ask her to do it! Think I will buy some and give it a bash your job looks great well done!

Hi and thanks for your kind remarks. On a scale of 1-10 i would honestly say it is a 9. with 1 being the hardest. Saying that though i am failrly good at wallpapering, which i suppose was a bit of a help.
Open up the roll of vinyl and lay the panel down flat. (you know what i mean) mark around with a pen and cut out, i left about 2 inches all the way around. Give it to yer misses to do if your not confident
Then give her a rollicking if she cocks it up.

good luck, and post a pic when she has done it

Got the 3M ordered will let you know the outcome! I hope I might have a bit left over, If I do I will try it over the fork lowers as protectors.

I had some 3M Di Noc left over from other things.... so out with the heat gun and you can stretch it round your hand guards.... and then simply cut a piece to size and stick round the forks....

I bought some for another project from "carbon-fibre" on ebay - quite a bit cheaper.

Think I'll be doing the forks this weekend ...........
