My daughter is looking for a simple, cheapish digital camera........around £100.00 or so....... Is she expecting too much ? Recommendations ?
I have told her that someone on here would know.......... :)

Many thanks...........

Hi Johnnie

There are a few here;

http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/xx/xx/0-110/1/1/criteresn.html

Check out the spec on each and see what suits. She may want as large a screen as possible to ease use - however that may mean a bigger physical size.

Things to check on the spec are:
Optical zoom value (forget digital zoom - its a waste of time)
Wether there is a memory card included (you'll want to buy a bigger one (min 1GB) anyway so take this with a pinch of salt)
Megapixel value (this determines the image size - although there are variables but don't worry about that) Go for 5MP minimum.
Personally I'd favour a normal camera brand - i.e Fuji, Olympus etc. Sony also make really simple cameras that take great pics.

Hope that helps

I have an Olyimpus mju300 which when I bought it was about £120, I know you can get them alot cheaper than that now - highly recommend them :thumb

Jonnie,

I can highly recommend the Canon Powershot A410 as a great value digital camera for about £90. It's "only" a 3.2 megapixel camera but the images produced are pretty high quality. This is the camera that I used on the Achill Island recce. Link here and here.

There is one for sale now on eBay ending today. Brand new and going for £42 at the moment. Here.

Kodak Easyshare C360

I have received from Amazon this morning a Kodak Easyshare C360 which is a 5 megapixel camera with 3 x optical zoom and upto 5 x digital. Its £179 on the Kodak website around £120 - £130 on most others bu £100 on Amazon. I have bought it as my old Kodak died at the weekend after a hard life including being dropped numerous times and being soaked on several occasions. The best things about the Kodak is as well as taking brill photos is that its really easy to use even without reading the instructions.
Also takes videos (without the zoom function). The only other thing you would need to buy apart from the camers is a memory card as the internal memory isnt huge.
If you want an even cheaper camera the 4 megapixel next model down C330 is £69.99 on the site.
Both are well worth a look. :thumb

Makro have an offer on the Ixus 5(?) in red. £100 plus the dreaded I think.

Argos were advertising a £99 6 megapixies jobby the other day....samsung I think (it was a reasonable brand anyway)

Silly really isn't it

You could try the olympus Fe series - i had an FE150 (i think) about £80 of your pounds stirling, simple to use, small and compact, takes the small Xd card

If not the olympus mju 300 or 400 - best place to look is on Ebay for these, just be careful of the refurbished ones, i was going to get one of these before Mrs Xbootie got me an olympus sp 700

Regards Adrian

Prices and specs to suit all pockets.

Some really cheap unbranded stuff. I got a 6 mega pixel jobbie on special offer for under £40. It's not perfect, but you can't complain for that money.

Thank you for all the replies, I really appreciate it. Plenty to go on there :thumb

What would I do without you ?........ :bow :bow :)
