Single or twin spark

O.K. Just got the cash together to buy a GS. Can anyone give me a definitive answer to the question " Is it worth paying a touch more money, for a twin spark GS, as opposed to a single spark ? "
I am a bit concerned about the " surging " that I have heard about. Does the twin spark cure this ?
This GS virgin would be very grateful for any info you can offer.

I believe the twin spark was for emissions only, ridden both, noticed no difference.

I think the twin spark comes with servo brakes which I found very sharp, and as you know I have sold the GS1150 after 2 weeks and went back to my R reg GS1100, which I think is smoother.

Every one to his own, several of my buddies think the GS1150 is the Dog's do dars !!,

The GS is the best all rounder I have owned and I have had it for over 5 years, the longest bike I had before that was 2 and half years.

I bought a new single spark RT in Feb this year and traded it in for a new twin spark GS Adventure, neither bike suffers from the "surge" but after 4000km the twin spark seems a bit smoother. I've read of twin sparks that supposedly have the "surge" but none of the 4 people I know personally have had a problem.

Unless you're making a factory order, my advice would be to have a good test ride on the actual bike you intend to buy. Good Luck!

The twin sparkers do have the servos but only with the ABS I believe. You should try both typs of brakes, personally I dont like the servos. If you ride in town or off road I think they would be considerably worse than the normal ones (snatchy).

I tried the twin and I found it smoother, but not too much.

I,ve had my twin spark for about 2 months and done 5000km.s
I didn,t get the surge at first, but I,m starting to get it at around 3700rpm 4th gear.
For resale later on I would go with the twin spark.

I'm on my 2nd twin spark BMW, the current one is a '04 GS. I think they do run a bit smoother, how much more is subjective. I dual plugged my 78 RS100 back in the early 80's. It was hard to get it running right, lots of ignition problems but it did run better after the modifications. For resale down the road, I'd spend the few extra quid up front and get twin spark.
