siting radio on a gs

could anyone give me some advice on where to site my intaride two way radio.
at the moment i have removed both the tool kit and the tyre inflator kit and sited my autocom unit with leads for both radio and gps ptt this leaves no space for anything else. i have run cables to the back under the rack and above the rear light at the moment and fitted the radio unit in a bag there it looks alittle exposed.

On person is your best bet as is no room under the GS's at all mate.

Siting Radio on a GS

I had an icom radio on my 1200GS for a couple of years. After trying it in the tankbag for a couple of weeks I got fed up & decided to look again at places to fit it on the bike itself. In the end I put the radio on top of what I would describe as the plastic that forms the mudguard above the rear wheel. From memory, I removed the rear light, loosened the mudguard / liner thingy, then pushed the radio inside, it was a tight fit. I packed the radio in a soft carry case & sealed it in a plastic bag, it connected to the autocom in the tooltray.

It sounds a crazy place to fit a radio, but it worked fine for 2 years / 20k miles in all weather, you forget it's there after a while 'cause it's out of sight and permenantly connected.

If I understand you right, that is where the BMW Alarm is fitted, so not an option for some.

I have a pro 7 sport and a Kenwood TK fitted under the seat perfectly. I have a top box which I carry bits and bobs in and therefor the toolkit + my extras are in there. I modified the tool tray under the seat by cutting the half that sits down into the cut out, away. This left a flat section to help the radio sit level and also kept the rubber stop in place for the seat bar, no problems now and power taken for the autcom from the GS side power socket.

hi, both me and my husband have our radios attached to the back of the bike. mine is fitted in a bag which is usually used for a bike lock and we attached it to the rail on the back were the top box fits. so it sits on the platform usually used for the seat. it sits there very secure on and off road. hope this helps
