My computer which I use for business letters invoices etc has never been connected to the internet has developed a strange problem. I was using word 200 which I've used for years and siome hoe I touched some keys by accident I dunno which. Now I have a strange icon appearing at the end of all my sentences and I cant delete it. Nothing new has been added at all what b get is two samll parellel vertical lines with a sold dot at the left hand top bit lia letter P but reversed. I dunno where this came from but it has to go !!!!. So I am desperate anyone helpout pleeeese. Many thanks definatly worth a drink!.

They're called formatting marks and you can switch them off in the preferences/options box. Haven't used Office 2000 for a while now, so can't remember exact process - but look for options/preferences and then I think it's in display.

Or just type 'formatting marks' into help to find out exactly how to switch them off (or back on again!)

P.S. They only display on screen - they won't print like that.

Also, the standard toolbar probably has the icon to toggle the marks on/off. It looks like a backwards 'P' with the hole filled in:

Thats it took two seconds and their gone!!, I admi9t to being a computer dummy butwould not have been so worried had I known that they wouldent print. So, many thanks to you both a happy bunny once again, I've been to houses with no electricity and turnd the main switch back on and all is resolved looks like they aint the only plonkers in the world. Many thanks got a pile to do and that problem was all I needed!.
