Apart from the weather last month, I enjoyed my time at the Skye Party so much that I decided to make a return visit last Thursday. My mate Gary is new to the biking this year, so I pushed him onto an 1100RT and talked him into doing the trip with me.
Things started off overcast, but I decided it wasnt gonna stop me having a good time. I worked till late in the night securing a mozza tooltube, which was loaded up with a bottle of red wine. So we stopped at Inverary and picked up some cheese and crackers. In the middle of Glen Orchy we did the cultured wine and cheese thing........... then it was into Glen Coe where the rain started. So we did Fort Bill, Invergarry and up the A87.
We headed over the bridge to Skye, turned right at the wee roundabout and the RT packed in....... we were less than a mile onto the island.
Oonyack was notified of the problem and immediately notified Robmac, who hurtled the 40 mile or so to us through the wettest weather Skye had to offer.
The RT was loaded into his van and Gary sat up front whilst I followed on the GSA. To say it blowed a bit and pished a little is the understatement of the year. But onward we headed to Rab's house. Cracking cup of coffee from Rab and apologies for the Rukka suit flooding yer living room floor Heather
After no time at all, Rab had Gary loaded up onto his rental 650GS and pointed us in the direction of Oonyackistan. We battled against the elements and I have come to the conclusion that I now need HID lights for the GSA (but not the same strength of the retina burning ones I saw in a certain KTM the next morning )
HRH had taken sanctuary in the Inn in preparation for the weary travellers arriving. We arrived at 10pm and got straight into the whiskey (definately not a drink I am used to taking) I mistakingly thought pubs in Oonyackistan did last orders at 11pm, so had a go at speed drinking........ well I dont recall what time we got thrown out at, but great craic was had by all. Then I found another bottle of red in my bag, so polished it off before retiring.
Next Morn at 9.30, before the first lot of paracetamol had kicked in, G told me Rab had arrived and was delivering the RT, all fitted out with new plugs and as right as .... er.... dare I say it.. rain .
Well, both he and Oonyack took a day off work and took us on the guided tour of the now dry island. We hooked up with Hebby on his new GSA. Very nice bike .
That evening was reserved, quiet dinner and a single pint for me, as I was still suffering the horrors from the night before. HRH said his goodbyes and we were planning our retreat when BlackBob arrived in full costume mode again..... so then it was a return to the whiskey and the rest is similar to the night before. Poor Gary didnt understand a word Bob said other than "The great storm and pint of scrumpy" def a reference to Proff me thinks.
Anyway, I just want to go on record and give a big thank you to the guys in Skye. The recovery, loan bike, repair and delivery service by Robmac could never be equalled by any dealer or recovery service....... and for next to nothing. Also to both he and Johnny for giving up a days work to entertain the Irish, for that guys, I give my thanks. I do intend to return next year, if the tourist board hasn't banned me onyack
Betty Swollocks.
(I do have a few photos, but returned home to find the builders have almost demolished my house and am now living with the family at the mar-in-laws, so cant get the stuff onto the laptop.)
