Sleeping bag.

I did seven years in the Royal Engineers and still have my old down-filled sleeping bag, only it's got pretty smelly over the years and I don't think it can be dry-cleaned. When I did use it, I found it pretty comfortable. Let's see how good my son's sleeping bag is.

One rider praised those cot-type camping beds which keep you a few inches off the ground, but that would be a pretty tight fit in my 2-man Khyam Eiger.

I always sleep in the buff but I can see that wearing something would make things easier to move around.

I washed Mrs Big Lee`s down filled jacket with the special stuff you can get for washing down filled things, made a good job of it too :thumb2

I`ve heard bad things about camp beds, never used one, that you`re above the ground with the insulation of your bag compressed & so get cold. I can believe it as I`ve just spent a week camping in St Malo & sitting on the camp chairs when it gets a bit cool at night does give you a cold bum :nono

I use a thermarest, a great bit of kit & packs down to half the size of a foam kip mat. oh, and another vote for snugpak bags (and jackets!) :beerjug: I`ve got the Elite 3 season one with the extendable zip baffle, zips in to make it a bit more snug but if I need a bit more room zips out to give another 6 ins or so more room.

I have a Cats Meaow sleeping bag from North Face, quite cheap and very warm, packs small. I also have a Eurotrek sleeping mat for sale (ebay Item number: 120150553206 ) as i just bought a Thermarest.

Then you`ll need to upgrade your tent to a Hilleberg and you will need a MSR stove and titanium cutlery, its never ending !!
