Slightly bent gear lever

I was feeling like an off road god last week and was belting along the uphill section of the Wilmington to Jevington bit of the Old Coach Road. There's a 'big step' that can catch you out but I blasted over it. Unfortunately I must have caught the gear lever on the step but the first I really knew was when I tried to change into second and the lever wasn't in the normal place.

It looks like the linkage between the lever and the gear box is bugered up though I managed to get it into second for the slow ride up to London and the dealer.

Bugger When you look at it, the leaver isn't too badly bent at all, so as you say, it looks like the linkage has bent/moved some what!

Hope it's straight forward to sort.

The bike's been in the dealers for ten days now waiting for a free slot to disassemble it. It looks like there's an internal problem with the gearbox, so could be expensive. I'd like to think it will be covered by warranty but suspect not.

It's not as if I crashed or came off. In fact although I think it may have been caused by the big step I'm not even sure of that as I don't remember any problems.

Caused by an accident by the look of it..........definitely whacked by something and hardly BMW's fault, Tim - so warranty claim would be dubious and most dealers would throw it out, knowing it would be rejected by BMW GB

I'd check out what it will do to your premiums and NCB for next year before claiming. Probably cheaper to pay to fix it

Never been different, that's why most pukka off-roaders come with NO WARRANTY............

The bike has been in simple terms...............used and abused.............caused by operator error .....should have wheelied up the rock step to prevent damage to the gear lever !!!
