Jan 07 bought an R1100S (over the phone whilst still in Ireland). 02, 13k, £4k. Not the worlds greatest bargain, but they are local to my normal residence, and I was desperate for a narrower bike than the GS (a whole other story). Anyway, took it in for a 18k service (at 19k), and mentioned the fact that the rear shock was fecked.
They had a look when I arrived (quite funny telling them that there was a small nail in the rear tyre that I had spotted on the pre ride check, and the service manager pointing out that the rear shock had disgorged its entire oil contents over the rear of the bike
.
So I asked for it to be replaced under warranty - service manager said he would do what he could.
Then he rang up to say the paralever bearings were buggered, I told him I wanted it fixed under warranty, he said he would do what he could.
Waited for a call offering me something or nothing, never came, rang up, bike is ready, waiting, shock/bearings seals and odds and sods all sorted. Under warranty. No arguing, no fussing, no need for ranting nor raving. Just job done.
I slagged SLM off on this forum for the way they treated me on the warranty work on my GS (which I bought brand new), so it seems only fair to say that this experience was the complete opposite. And on a bike that was not only secondhand, but the cheapest on their lot.
