Sloppy gear lever

My gear lever occasionally goes all sloppy and I can't change up from 2nd to 3rd without going back down into 1st (and not letting the clutch out!).

As I said, it doesn't happen all the time but it's bloody annoying when it does. Is this an indication of problems in the gear box or is there some adjustments I can make or do "they all do that"?

Cheers

Check for loose pinch bolt (under and in toward engine) as well as possible loose pinion just at heel (tightens from behind if recall correctly). Any slight play in lever can result in sloppy changes.

Cheers Big Dom

Thanks for this one. I've had the same problems and put it down to "they all do that sir".

Just had a look and the linkage that connects onto the gearbox spline was halfway off the spline and the Allen bolt was lose. Knocked it back on and tightened the bolt.

The gear change now feels decidedly more positive.

I've attached a picture after I'd tightened it.

Cheers,
Kev

Yes thats the one - the other is on the larger peg pivot just out the pic bottom RHS and tightens from the back.

I looked at this part of the linkage but couldnt see how to get to whatever kept it tight. There's a bit of movement there as well..

Sorry about the thread hijack Guitar Man.

Sorry about the thread hijack Guitar Man.

If it was proper thread hijack you'd be posting pictures of bunny rabbits or bakerman rather than the actual subject :D
