Slow acceleration and I can't remember why

Over the last week or so my bike has been slow under hard acceleration, ie if I roll on slow it's fine but if I pile on there is a lag, it revs, but takes a few seconds to catch up an actually accelerate.

It's happened on old bikes but can't for the life of me remember what the cause was.

Clutch slip .... ??
 
In old money probably carbs out of tune, so maybe throttle bodies out of sync?
 
I'd go with clutch slip too.... If the engine revs and the bike doesn't accelerate at the same time.
 
Possibly caused by a leak on the gearbox output seal allowing oil to get onto the clutch plates...

If oil getting passed seals, not all parts required- in my case about £600 at Barry Robsons in York.
Quote for all the bits was in the region of £900!!
 
If it's been slipping for a while it'll have buggered the clutch pressure plate too - don't be tempted to just get a friction plate.
 
Oil past the seal is a warranty claim if in warranty (maybe goodwill contribution if out of warranty but dealer serviced)

Clutch wear is not

How old is the bike?
 
Way out or warranty and any goodwill claim would be doubtful at best. I tried it when I blew a gearbox and although they said they would fit a gearbox for nothing, they wanted £3k for a gearbox:eek: I passed on their kind offer.......!

Get it to ABW as you are close and they will do a good job. If it's the gearbox seal,, you might as well have a whole new clutch whilst the bike is in half. I did that when my gearbox went even though the clutch was OK. Cheaper to get it done whilst Jono was in there.
 
It's not the clutch leaver catching on the hand-guard is it ? :nenau

Rotate the hand guard so it is clear of the end.

^^ This is a free fix :D ( if of course it is the fix )
 
If the gearbox input seal fails it's possible the bearing is also failing. So you could end up with a new oil seal and clutch only to find you need another set soon after.
Get it checked properly and if in doubt change the gearbox bearing as well as the seal.
 
Hey check that there isn't too much oil in the clutch handlebar reservior. As the clutch wears it sends oil back to the leaver and if there is too much oil then it'll slip
